Velasquez signs new 8-fight deal

UFC President Dana White announced the news during an impassioned speech at a pre-event press conference for UFC 157, which takes place Saturday at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.

"He deserved it," White told reporters while defending a recent spate of roster cuts that trimmed the UFC's ranks.

"We always try to do the right thing," White said. "I have three fights left with Cain Velasquez. We just signed a new eight-fight deal with Cain. I didn't have to do that.

"So the thing that drives me the craziest is when people try to say, 'Oh, these guys are just money-hungry.' Money-hungry guys wouldn't have bought this company in a million years."

Btw....   Are these fighters getting the remainder of there contract paid out if the UFC decides to cut them before  the completion of there 8 fights.   Or do they always have to power to cut a fighter regardless of the lenght of the deal they are on. Its seems very unlikely and frankly rather imprecedented in the history of sport contracts. But still i am pretty sure Fitch was still on a fight deal before the UFC let him go.   Perhaps i am just being ignorant and the reason the cut Fitch was because his contract was up. But if they can cut people at random while there contracts are still running and they do not pay out the remainder of there contract i would be taken aback and it would frankly set them in an incredible questionable light.

You are assuming a lot here....   I think he got a better deal. Rightly so because he is extremely important for Zuffa considering the demo they need to break if they ever want to truly grow in the America's and want to be embraced as an valid alternative to boxing by the Mexican population (or people with ancestry).   He is also going to stay dominant and on top for a long long time. The KO against Junior was a big fluke. The second fight showed that. Since Cain learned from his mistake and wont step into the ring, with his belt on the line, again with an injury of such magnitute it is safe to say that he will dominate everyone in the heavyweight division for the forseeable future.   It is really the only small sliver of good news i heard from Dana or the UFC in the past week.

Cain represents Mexico (ie: brown pride)...  Zuffa desperately needs an ambassador with a title to make traction in mexico. the UFC is filled with brazilian champs and talent.
