King Mo: Hands low not reason for KO

At last Thursday's Bellator event, Muhammed Lawal, or 'King Mo' was knocked unconscious by Emmanuel Newton, a heavy under dog in the lightweight bout. The knockout was suprising as Lawal seemed to be winning the fight and in a moment of showboating, kept his hands law and was caught off guard by a spinning-back fist. At least that's what it seemed like, although Lawal offered a different explanation:

"I have been here before and I bounced back from it, and I will do the same this time. I am going to work more on my defense with Jeff Mayweather and I'm going to go back to my roots and work with Kevin Jackson, and I think I will be just fine. Emanuel did what he had to do and he caught me," Lawal commented.

As far as the spinning backfist that put him out, Lawal said it was a shot he never even saw. "I didn't even see the shot. A lot of people saying that I was fighting cocky and with my hands down, but if you watch it, when he missed with his right hand, I threw a right hand and then he came with the spinning backfist," he explained. "So he kind of caught me in the act of punching, but no excuses, I'm good, and I will be back and hopefully I get to fight him again in the future. It was the first time I had been knocked out, and the good thing is I came to pretty quick. When I saw the ref standing over me, I just said, 'Damn!'"

Exactly! He's a fool if he doesn't think you can throw a right AND keep your left hand up.

You're talking about a guy who immediately called someone a "racist bitch" when she offended him.  And told a white kid they have "jungle fever" when they said Rampage would beat him.  Think about that mindset for a second.

He said he couldn't wrestle because his knee was messed up and that he messed it up worse in that fight to require surgery.

Anybody notice the recurring theme in all of Mo's problems?  It is never his fault (according to Mo).

Poor fundamentals are just that. Silly to say that keeping his hands up greatly increasing his chances of defending a shot on the button.

Yeah, I feel like having his left hand below his beltline had something to do with it.

If Mo were smoother he would have offered to raise the guy's kid for him so he wouldn't become a hater. LOL.Anyway, had he kept his left had where it should have been, he would have blocked that backfist.
