Faber vs. Jorgensen to headline April's TUF 17 Finale

Yesterday, MMAJunkieJohn broke the news that Demetrious Johnson was injured and would be unable to defend his flyweight title at April's TUF 17 Finale in Las Vegas. The report was later confirmed, but it didn't take long for the UFC to come up with a replacement main event:

The MMA injury bug is beginning to rear its head, but UFC is scrambling to stay ahead of it. With news that UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson was injured and his title defense against John Moraga in the main event of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 17 Finale was off, a replacement bout has already been booked.

Former WEC featherweight champion and now bantamweight, Urijah Faber will face perennial top contender Scott Jorgensen. UFC President Dana White made the news official via Twitter Tuesday evening.

Faber, 33, is coming off of a first-round submission victory over Ivan Menjivar at UFC 157 on Saturday. Prior to that bout, he lost to current UFC interim banatmweight champion Renan Barao for said title at UFC 149 in July. He is 11-5 in Zuffa-owned organizations and 27-6 in his professional MMA career.a

Both athletes seem excited for the matchup, and as good acquaintances were good spirited in an exchange on Twitter last night:

@scottjorgensen: Me n @UrijahFaber gonna putting on damn show at @ufc tuf finale live. Crazy I wouldn't be fighting if he hasn't talked me into in college!

I guess if I had tickets I'd be disappointed, but really if it seems like a big let down it's only because they made it way better than tuf finale's ever usually are.

I'm shocked that Faber didn't drop to 125 and they made it an interim title fight...

People always bitch that Faber gets too many title shots but if you think about it he's NEVER lost a non-title fight in the WEC or UFC and is still the #3 BW in the world behind Cruz and Barao.

A few people think this is 'not main event material,' but I would have to respectfully disagree.Faber always puts on entertaining fights, win or lose. Even after Aldo stole his soul; Urijah Faber pushed-on. Sure- he's had some bad instances, bad luck, and bad losses. But Faber is a stand-up dude, down to earth person with a lot of heart- who pours it all out there in the cage. Nobody's perfect.Urijah Faber is a guy who always brings it. I've necer seen a boring Faber fight. The eite level of talent in any one of the divisions he could possibly cut to, is powerful. There's only a handful of guys fighting at weightclasses under 155 in each division. Urijah is an incredible athlete, I knew this kid was gonna be special when I worked at a bar & grill and witnessed him lay a beating with flying knees and all kinds of nastiness- that restaurant came unglued when they had thst shit on.

It is a great fight. But its still a bigger fight for Scotty then Faber. I think Jor last performance was great and his fight against Wineland was more then pretty good as well.   Having said that i would have rather seen the Faber vs Wineland 2.I think that fight has so much more potential now. And frankly i think it would be a bigger challenge for Faber then Jor.   But you should never look a gifted horse in the mouth. I think this will deliver  so i am pretty happy with it.
