Wand could stay at 205, Stann 'one and done'

Wanderlei Silva has fought at a variety of weights during his 17-year career, but he last competed at light-heavyweight in 2008. Brian Stann last competed in the division in 2010. So why are the two fighting at 205 this weekend at UFC on FUEL TV 8?

The 36-year-old Axe Murderer explains.

"It feels good," said Silva. "I only need to lose about five or six pounds. When you go to 185, the last 10 pounds are tough. From 195 to 185 is too hard. Sometimes you'll be sad, and you start to kick the dog. You're mad at home. To save my marriage, I will fight at 205."

"Cutting weight is too hard. "My opponent fights 185, but he accepted to fight at 205, and it's better. Too much dieting is hard."

Although Silva sounds like he'd be just fine sticking around a bit longer, Stann is not.

"One and done," said Stann of 205. "I'm a middleweight fighter. I could compete at light heavyweight, but if I want to be top-10 and compete for the title, it needs to be at middleweight.

"With my style and the ways that I've had difficulties in my career with people neutralizing me, it benefits me to be the bigger, stronger individual when people are trying to neutralize me against the cage and on the ground."

Come Saturday, fans will care little what weight the fight is contested at.

"I think this fight isn't going to pass the third round," Silva said. "I have an aggressive style. He has an aggressive style. It's the kind of fight I like to do. I don't like to run away. I know on Sunday, we're going to give a great show for the fans."

yeah, wand def lost the "look" when he went under the knife, he looks rather funny now imo. Cutting the weight cant be easier now that he's older and been thru so many wars.

He is looking normal again. i like wand at 205. A combination of the plastic surgery with his cheekbones popping out looking disheveled and starving made him very unintimidating. At 205 Vanderlie has that look again. Good stuff!

Yes. Cutting weight affects your ability to take a punch.

I think when your chin is gone, your chin is gone. Weighing 300 wouldn't change it.

Do you think his chin will be better at 205? maybe the weight cutting affected it a bit more....
