Michael Bisping earns decision win over Alan Belcher

In his biggest fight to date, Alan Belcher came up flat. Against Michael Bisping, that will almost never do. The quick and conditioned Brit usually overwhelms with activity, and that's essentially the formula he used to take control of his UFC 159 co-main event matchup.

It was all going his way until a late eye poke stopped the fight before the final bell. As per the unified rules, due to the unintentional but illegal strike, the fight goes to the judges' cards, and Bisping was awarded a unanimous technical decision, 30-27, 30-27, 29-28.

Bisping is now 24-5. Belcher has lost two in a row, and is now 18-8.

On wikipedia under unified rules (it's slightly wrong but whatever): 'if a foul incapacitates a fighter, then the fight end in a dq if the foul was intentional, or a NC if unintentional. If a foul causes a fighter to be unable to continue later in the bout as seen in both of the fights at UFC159, it ends with a technical decision win to the injured fighter if the injured fighter is ahead on points, otherwise it is a technical draw.' Before anyone starts jumping up and down. What happened here is a kind of extension of that rule it's happened this way in MMA before usually at smaller events and it's clearly brought over from boxing and my understanding is you can get the W that way in boxing as well. In the case that you can justifiably say the vast majority of action has taken place you can just go for a technical decision. The UFC uses these sparingly because you can only do really do it justifiably if it happens in the 3rd round and usually late in it (or later in a 5 round fight)which is obviously rare, fighters get tired in the third, less active, less likely to get injured accidentally and the UFC is obviously the best in general at keeping potential dangers that cause accidents out of the cage. This is a freak pair of examples of how this rule works and I think it works well in the circumstances but should be used sparingly and only in circumstances like these, for Bisping to lose that fight or for it to be classed as a draw because Belcher got poked would be horrendous, all that work training to put in a dominant performance Belcher clearly was not coming back from to be ended by an accident? The asterisk is bad enough punishment.Praying for Belcher's eye though, hate seeing this shit.
