White: Junior Dos Santos earns title shot with win over Hunt

UFC President Dana White revealed that in a discussion with match maker Joe Silva it was decided that Roy Nelson would either fight Daniel Cormier or Mark Hunt. Cormier is coming off a win over former champion Frank Mir and Hunt is scheduled to fight Junior Dos Santos in May's UFC 160. Reading between the lines, it would mean a win over Dos Santos would not secure Hunt a title shot, despite possibly a fifth straight win in the UFC.

However Dos Santos would be granted a title fight with a win over Hunt

Junior Dos Santos is just one win away from a chance to regain the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight title, according to company president Dana White.

At Saturday's UFC 159 post-fight press conference (watch it here) in Newark, N.J., White confirmed that a victory for "Cigano" over Mark Hunt at UFC 160 next month would put him in the No. 1 contenders spot in the weight class, despite the fact he is just one-fight removed from losing the belt.

YAY!  That means if JDS wins that he and Cain (if he retains) will have fought 3 times in the span of less than 2 years.  Ugh.

I'm with this guy. Hunt may be an underdog but if his manages to starch JDS, I think DW will give him a shot. I'm not putting too much stock in the post fight comments because any sort of a thunderous win by Hunt will have the entire MMA community begging for Hunt to get a shot and DW, if nothing else has always been exceptional at trying to give the fans what they want.

Fix this biased system of hand picking title shots.Or lose financial support from hardcore fans.Sadly your image, age, and ass kissing are just as important to getting a belt as your skills and wins. Not cool. Not real. Not paying money for it.

I know. He was supposed to. Only reason fight didn't happen is because of Brock's illness, so they put in someone just as big and strong (Carwin). But look at the insane challenges they put in front of him.

Thats bullshit. Even with a win over Hunt JDS doesnt deserve a rematch yet, he got completely outclassed by Cain. But if Hunt beats JDS he absolutely deserves one. Struve was on a pretty good streak and JDS is an ex champion. Plus, Hunt would have the biggest win streak at heavyweight.

Just shows how thin the UFC heavyweight division really is, Bigfoot who got destroyed kast year by Cain getting a title shot. Now JDS with one win gets a title shot.
