Thiago Alves vs. Matt Brown booked for UFC on FOX Sports

Matt Brown is currently riding a five bout win streak in the UFC's stacked welterweight division, and now may face his stiffest test to date versus former number one contender Thiago Alves. It will have been almost 18 months since his last fight when Alves steps into the Octagon in Boston. The bout was first reported by MMAFighting.com:

The UFC's much-discussed debut card on the soon-to-be launched FOX Sports 1 channel appears to have its first fight.

Welterweights Matt Brown (17-11) and Thiago Alves (19-9) have verbally agreed to fight on the Aug. 17 card in Boston, sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed with MMAFighting.com Saturday. The fighters have yet to sign bout agreements, according to those same sources.

It is unclear at this time whether the fight will take place on the main card, however, it's important to note that Brown's last two fights have aired on FOX.

Judging by this thread, the one who's 2-4 in his last 6 is more hype than the one on a 5 fight win streak

What is this about hype trains? Jordan Mein was a hype train. And when he comes out and wrecks his next opponent, people are going to give Brown the credit he deserves. I'm not saying he's in the mix for a fucking title shot but he is putting together an impressive streak of wins, regardless of rank. The fact is that Matt is getting better. Alves isn't gonna sub him, and he's also coming off a huge layoff while Matt had the best 2012 of any fighter in the company.Matt takes this by KO when Alves falls into his game, and finally gets his post-fight interview with Rogan.

I will be rooting Matt on, it seems like a swirl of things are working for him in this one. He is a on a big win streak, great confidence right now, Thiago will have some ring rust. It will be interesting to see a good striker like Alves against Brown.

Alves hasn't outclassed anyone sine he was 49lbs heavier than Hughes and hit the flying knee
