Penn considering UFC return at lightweight

BJ Penn retired from mixed martial arts a December 2012 loss to Rory MacDonald, however Ariel Helwani reported on the most recent episode of UFC Tonight that Penn's retirement may not stick:

“The door is still open for BJ Penn to return to MMA in the future. He’s actually training right now and has to check in with his body and mind in the next few months. If he does come back, it will be at 155 pounds.”

Recently UFC President Dana White has stated publicly that he would like Penn to stayed retired to avoid further injuries and brain trauma, however will most likely allow Penn to return should he desire to do so.

Its really up to penn, thats why he is training to see where he is at physically and mentally.Penn had a bad night vs edgar, i dont think thats enough evidence to say he cant hang with the younger guys.I still believe most are judging him based on his WW fights where he was clearly undersized. If BJ feels ready to go, i do believe he can and will make a title run.

in the second fight Frankie dominated. and I don't care what anyone says, BJ Penn wasn't all there in the second fight.

Maybe Frankie never "hurt" BJ, but he did dominate him for all 5 rounds in pretty much every aspect of the game. There's not that much evidence that BJ could go back to 155 and suddenly beat guys like Henderson and Melendez. He's not a young man anymore.

Frankie never hurt bj.I think u are judging him based on his fights against larger WW, and even those guys couldnt finish him.If Penn feels good to go, then why not let him......hes never been KOed, unlike chuck who got KOed multiple times and still wanted to continue.

honestly i like bj but his time has passed. so what if he was a good lightweight 4 years ago? Also, so what if he arguably beat edgar the first time? look what happened the second time.I like bj thats why i dont want him to fight. hes done everything he is going to do. only thing he can do now in his career is beat up low level guys or get washed by the top of the division.same thing will happen to every fighter sooner or later. if bj is smart hell never fight again. unlike chuck and wand who got kod many times

Hes 4-2 in his last 6 fights at LW.Arguably since many believe he beat edgar the first time.Only two LW have ever beat him, and they were by decisions and also for the title.
