White: Thomson comments dumb, but will receive no disciplinary action

UFC lightweight Josh Thomson got a lot of people riled up yesterday when he posted some comments on Facebook regarding gay marriage. Some UFC athletes have been fined or suspended in the past for inappropriate comments, however according to UFC President Dana White, Thomson will be not be suspended or find for his 'asinine' comments:

"He didn't say anything negative. He didn't say anything bad. He didn't say anything against gay marriage or gay people. He just posed the question. Is it stupid? What he put down was probably the dumbest thing I've heard. He should probably get a hobby like finger painting, or something, and leave talking to smart people. That's probably what he should do. That would probably be really good for him, but we don't stop people from having their own opinions.

He doesn't like gay marriage -- that's his opinion. He didn't hurt anybody, he didn't say anything negative. He just said that if people were able to do what they think is fun, or what makes them happy, when does it end? What he said was asinine and absolutely just the stupidest gibberish I've ever seen in my life. He should stick to finger painting or fighting and leave the talking to smarter people. He didn't hurt anybody."

If he had said he was against gay marriage that would not have been controversial in the slightest.

Dana is not bothered by any fighter, but he is deathly afraid of Big Gay.

I find it funny that Thompson is basically echoing Scalia's dissent is Lawrence. You can say you don't agree with the view but it's essentially the argument of a Supreme Court Justice. It's hilarious that this point has largely been missed. You might not agree with the view point, but to call it dumb or to think it has no basis in the contemporary debate regrading homosexual civil rights is hilarious. Because you know what? Legal challenges that get Supreme Court review are going to have to deal with that mindset.

All Religious zealots with no facts have to say is: "I don't support Gay Marriage".    Any "Reason" beyond that without facts is just essentially digging a deeper ditch of hate, have the opinion, but without a single fact to back up something beyond that STFU

Please explain how that is particularly different ?People at the time made the exact argument It's the mindset that what is being 'questioned' is depraved and so would open the floodgates to other things seen as similarly depraved

Completely different things. Not analogous at all.

DerrrrrrrrrrrrrpSarcastic slow clap to anyone who didn't understand that asking a loaded question is a method of making an assertion / comparison Wtf Dana are you serious? It's the slippery slope logical fallacy, the comparison comes in that it assumes that gay relationships are more similar to incest / beastiality than straight marriage across some kind of ethical scale, therefor allowing one is a step towards allowing the other

How was that hate speech? He said he thought Thompson's comments were dumb. He said he thought Thompson wasn't very smart. I'm not a DFW fan.....but I don't see hate in those words.
