Jones opens as 8-1 favorite over Gustafson

Earlier today the UFC announced that Jon Jones would next defend his light heavyweight title against Alexander Gustafson. Jones will be a heavy favorite in the bout according to the first betting lines released today:

At -800 to Gustafsson's +500, the line represents the second-highest opening number for a Jones title defense. He opened as high as -925 for his fight against Vitor Belfort this past September. Against Chael Sonnen in April at UFC 159, he opened -600 before climbing as high as -1100 at fight time. He won handily with a first-round TKO.

Oddessa said even at -800, the line could be low.

"It's one of those 'I  can't make the price high enough bouts,'" said Oddessa, who can be found at @mmaodds on Twitter. "On fight night, there won't be a betting favorites parlay that doesn't include Jon Jones."

Man I can't believe how many of you say Gus has zero chance of winning. You say it's a bad match-up for Gus but it's as good as it gets with both guys being pretty long. Gus has good footwork and utilizes his reach better than any fighter Jones has fought(maybe besides Machida but different styles. Phil Davis 100% has had to improve Gus' wrestling as well. Yes Jones should be the heavy favorite, but I think it will be more competitive than most of you think.

Woah easy with the old Hendo talk he is still a beast and was hurt in machida fight. Hendo has had two bad fights that he was hurt in and u could clearly tell, Shields and Machida.

Wow, I think this fight is competitiveGus has great size and great toughness.I think Jones will take him down early and often, but Gus will not go away, and Gus is a threat in the later rounds. It's probably a good line to start, but that -800 will probably drop into the -400 -500 range, it's not going the other way.IMO, this is Jones toughest fight of his career.
