Evans earns close split decision win over Henderson

The UFC 161 main event featured a light heavyweight bout between former UFC champion Rashad Evans and former PRIDE and Strikeforce champion Dan Henderson.

Rashad Evans' fight with Dan Henderson at UFC 161 was billed as a battle to remain relevant in the light heavyweight division.

Following a slow start at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg on Saturday, Evans fought his last two rounds like he knew it.

After Henderson took the first round and a close second, Evans turned it on the the third. That was enough in the three-round main event for Evans to take a pair of 29-28 scores (Henderson took the other card 29-28) in a split-decision victory.

I love when morons say, "Have you ever stepped in the cage?"Have you ever sucked off Rashad Evans? This is a message board, dude has his opinion. Fuck off.

Evans didn't really have control though. He tried numerous takedowns that round and they were stuffed just like pretty much all of them were in the fight. The rules say stuffed takedowns are supposed to count for the stuffer even though the judges never do. Rashad came forward a little more but he didn't do much with it as Henderson landed the better strikes. It was a close round and a crappy fight. Both guys should be ashamed. And for the morons that say things like "Have you guys ever stepped in a cage". That's a stupid defense. Well, they're pro fighters. They know damn well what's expected of them or they should find a different occupation. You don't see mechanics, doctors, etc doing that because it's a senseless defense. Pro fighters at Rashad & Hendo's level get paid a lot of money to show up and fight hard so they don't deserve slack when they fail to do it. Excusing that just shows your gullible.

I cant believe people think Dan "def" won R2. Nobody blew the other out but Rashad was much more on the offensive i thought so didnt think it would go to Dan at all. I also thought it was in poor taste that Dan was complaining about the Machida fight at this point. In both fights, Dan lost because the other guy wouldnt stand in front of him and brawl and get hit with his right. I thought Dan looked much more dangerous vs Machida, am I the only one who thought Dan looked waaay slower, sluggish, sloppy tonight? Look at those attempts to come fwd for his right hand. He didnt set them up, they were so slow, it really seemed Dan got old over night. Btw, regarding the Machida fight, Machida was the one who started to find his range and start opening up as R3 closed. Had that gone 5, Dan would have been beat even worse when it was also clear he couldnt get close to Lyoto.

The second round was close, but Dan was clearly on the defensive. Evans by aggression and octagon control...

Hendo definitely won the 1st 2 rounds. Rashad won the 3rd. BS decision. Both guys did a poor job though. Freakin' Rashad doesn't even fight. He just dances around and paws at air for 15 minutes. Too bad the judges think all movement means something.

Should have Been 5 rounds. Hendo obvious round 1and Rashad obvious round 3. 2nd was really close I had it hendo but 5 rounds would have been best.

Ya I hate how he still complains about the Machida decision. This fight was way closer than his fight against Machida.Machida beat his ass 30-27. Dan didn't land anything.
