Iole: Roy Jones Jr. considering MMA fight

UFC middleweight champion has repeatedly and fervently discussed boxing Roy Jones Jr.

“From a professional point of view, my goals have already been accomplished,” said Silva earlier this week. “I don’t see any greater challenges in my career. I simply seek to be a better human being every day. I try to set a good example to those around me. That’s what’s most important to me. A fight with Jon Jones, with St-Pierre or even with Weidman won’t change anything. The past has been written already.”

“I believe a fight against Roy Jones Jr. would be much better."

Up until now, the thought was that Silva would step into the ring. However,in a text to Yahoo Sports' Kevin Iole,  Jones says he is considering stepping into the Octagon.

Kevin Iole ‏@KevinI
I'm stunned, but I just got a text from @RealRoyJonesJr and he said he is planning to talk to @danawhite about fighting MMA. Whoa.

Ross Miller ‏@rossjmiller
@KevinI I'll only pay to watch @RealRoyJonesJr if he puts in bjj blue belt mat time; we've seen how this ends = ankle pick/choke

Kevin Iole ‏@KevinI
I still can't believe Dana is buying this. Talking is one thing; doing is another entirely.

On Thursday, Dana White said Jones is coming to UFC 162 on Saturday to talk about a fight with Anderson Silva.

What do you think UG? How would Jones do in MMA? And how would Silva do boxing Jones?

So what? The Toney fight was boring because of Couture. Anderson made the Bonnar fight wildly entertaining. He'd do the same here. He'd probably start to mimic RJJ like he was literally stealing his essence in the change and channel his power.

Probably...I'd still buy it, I won't miss a Silva PPV at this point.

Unlike the other MMA guys who were too much of a coward to face boxers, hands up, Silva will not throw any kicks or takedowns.  That's a real MMA fighter for you.

I dont think Roy would really train mma and put up a good fight. I think he just wants to participate for the paycheque like James Toney. Do the rock bottom amount of preperation, hype the fight like its going to be huge, then lose in round 1 and walk away with the cash.

Not gonna happen as long as Anderson keeps winning. If Anderson loses to Weidman I could see the UFC making this fight though. It's not a bad idea $ wise. Roy Jones Jr coming into MMA against someone like Anderson "might" be the biggest PPV MMA has ever had. It'd definitely be a bigger payday than most cards Anderson headlines.

The only way this happens is in the UFC, under standard rules. Dana would never allow his number one fighter to fight outside of the octagon. It would just have to be a risk Roy Jones took that Silva would stand with him, which I'm sure he would honor if that's what they agreed on.

Guys, if it happens it will likely be a promoter fighter fighter agreement that has happened WAY more than most of you realize.......standing only. Hell, RJJ might push for only punches, maybe elbows, but no kicks or knees against Anderson

Wait, are you saying Anderson Silva would beat Roy Jones Jr. in a boxing match, during the time Roy was at his best? If so, you must be too young to have seen Roy box, or you don't know what the word "prime" means.
