White wants Weidman vs. Silva rematch at UFC 168 NYE show

The UFC generally holds its largest show of the year around New Years eve, which this year would be UFC 168 on Dec 28.

A major rematch, Ronda Rousey vs. Miesha Tate at the conclusion of TUF 18 had been targeted for the show, but now the most anticipated rematch in the sport's history may be in the offing.

Lance Pugmire of the LA Times tweeted the news.

Lance Pugmire @latimespugmire
@danawhite just told me he's so amped about @SpiderAnderson @ChrisWeidmanUFC rematch, he's thinking of moving it to Dec. 28. #UFC

Immediately after the fight Anderson Silva showed little interest in discussing a rematch, but that is not expected to last.

If the Weidman vs. Silva rematch takes place at UFC 168, the Rousey vs. Tate rematch would likely be moved to the Super Bowl weekend show on Feb 1 in New Jersey.

That won't be much of a consideration at all. The fans might be passionate but it won't stop the UFC from setting up a stadium filling show down in Brazil.I rather hope the will do i because we finally get the stadium filling show then. I really do think the UFC can use something like that for PR reasons. I mean the big Cain show in Mexico also got postponed. They need something big within the next year. There not going to get NYC either and i really don't think they could do a football stadium in the States now.So do the fight in Brazil. Put Aldo on the card as well if he comes out of the Zombie fight unscathed and make some history.

Dana came out and said no to year end show after he said maybe so it's a no go. He also does not like the idea of having it in NJ apparently as he does not want the Super Bowl to overshadow it. I am sure Fox can get him to agree by saying they will push the PPV on Fox all week leading up to the super bowl. However other media sites like ESPN may not give it as much press as they would if it was on another weekend. Maybe do it in March in Vegas or in Brazil. That fight in Brazil could sell out a soccer stadium but doubt they will let Chris go down there for security reasons.

Yes, UFC 111, 136, 152, 148 was gonna have it but Cruz got hurt, 165 will have two title fights. Usually one drawing champ and then they slide in a lesser selling title like Flyweight, BW, FW. So Ronda/Tate would be a stretch as co main event since that fight could headline its own PPV and probably do 350 to 500k.  Could do less than Ronda/Liz cause its not a first but also could do more cause more promo, TUF and its a grudge match/rematch.   So thats probably a 500k PPV main event and other than Cain, Jones, Silva, GSP nobody else can do a half a mill buy card.  So thats why they wont put it on Fox or probably wont put it as a co main event under Silva/Weidman.

That's typical time for the UFC.  It is rare that fighters get another fight withing four months.

I'm not one to defend Don King, er Dana but I think he is only doing this to anticipate that Silva will change his mind.  He hasn't re-written the events yet so it isn't official. If and IF Silva really is done, Dana should just let him be. I mean I know it is a business and all, but even if Silva does not fight for the title, people will still pay to see him fight because they will want to prove (to themselves) that he lost due to a clowning fluke. I remember when Mike Tyson came back like train after his loss to Douglas destroying everyone except Razor Ruddock who got a rematch because there was a lot of gripe that the ref stopped the fight too soon.

Pretty shitty how Dana already started pushing by the end of the Presser given his claimed stance on giving Anderson time at first.

Based on what? Everything he has sadistic and done points to not wanting a rematch, before and after the fight. Just because Dana wants it, and is already talking dates to apply pressure, doesn't mean it happens.
