Nelson: I'll be fighting in the UFC for the rest of my career

Steph Daniels from BloodyElbow and Steven Marrocco from MMAJunkie have learned some details about the contract Roy Nelson recently signed with the UFC.

Nelson's manager, Mike Kogan, today told MMAjunkie.com that the heavyweight's deal calls for nine fights in the octagon. He declined to disclose financial terms of the contract, citing its confidentiality provision.

For the first fight of the new deal, "Big Country" is scheduled to meet Daniel Cormier in the pay-per-view co-main event of UFC 166, which takes place Oct. 19 at Toyota Center in Houston.

Nelson was more expansive with Daniels. Big Country, who has had a combative relationship with UFC president Dana White, struck a concilliatory tone. The issue of fighter pay has been a contentious one, by Nelson said simply that he didn't have all the facts.

"I think there are two stories for everything," said Nelson. "I don't know the whole business side of the UFC, so I can't really make a fair assumption. I can tell you from the experience of just working in general, you can always do more. You can always do better."

"You could say that I'll be fighting for the UFC for the rest of my life. The contract is that big. You won't see me fight anywhere else, unless the UFC goes under. I don't think that's ever going to happen."

"The beauty of the heavyweight division is that you can fight anybody in there and lose on any given day. The only person in the division that has a perfect record right now is Daniel, and that's only going to last until October."

"If I beat Daniel, I think I'll be Top 20 [laughs]. Seriously, if I beat Daniel, and he's the Number 2 guy in the world, where does that put me?"

Happy he's not leaving the UFC I always get the PPVs he's on as they're always entertaining win or lose.

Just when I thought we'd finally be rid of him. Just let him go somewhere else so I don't have to hear about/from him anymore. One of my most hated guys in MMA.

Roy makes my head hurt with his comments sometimes, but I feel like his heart is always in the right place, so if he's happy, kudos to him.  I think it would be crazy great if he ended up getting a title shot and won. It would totally ruin this pristine chiseled fighter who fights safe thingie.

Dana has no reason to get rid of him. They might have problems with each other sometimes but at the end of the day Roy helps sell any ppv he's on. He turns a "maybe I'll buy it" ppv into a buy. Exactly what Dana wants.

Lol @ needing a good excuse to get rid of someone when it's written into their contracts. Ask Fitch what great excuse they used for his termination.

This.Yea he may be cut after his next fight after Cormier actually. He is definitely losing to Cormier which will be his 2nd loss in a row. Make it 3 in a row and Dana finally has a good excuse to get rid of him.
