Bisping: Machida needs to change his style

Lyoto Machida lost a close decision to Phil Davis at UFC 163, a decision many thought should have gone in favor of the Brazilian. Whether you believe the judging was bad or not, UFC middleweight Michael Bisping believes it may have been Machida's style that lost him the fight:

His words on FUEL TV's UFC 163 post-fight show:

"Lyoto didn't do enough in this fight. He was hanging around and letting Davis do his work. Davis impressed me with his striking. Machida wasn't overly active. Maybe he needs to change his style. I didn't see the killer instinct. He needs to be more aggressive. He's too reserved and too hesitant."

Machida has often been criticized for his elusiveness and preference to counter strike as opposed to pressing the action. That strategy, however, has proven successful for "The Dragon" in the past, leading him to a UFC Light Heavyweight championship back in 2009.

It's Bisping in a commentary position has nothing to do with the way he fights, he didn't compared Machida to himself just a personal observation.   If Chuck Lidell said Lesnar needs to learn how to take punch (Which I'm sure he did at some point) Lidell's chin wearing down doesn't make him wrong or unable to comment.

What in tarnation does that have to do with anything? Are you saying Bisping has no right to criticize?  Please. Don't make me defend Bisping. It won't sit right with me. I'll fucking vote myself down.

Bisping has zero ko power, machida can hit hard. Also to be fair to bisping when he has someone outclassed he is very active and looks for.a tko.Machida seems content to prove his superority in one or two exchanges and chill the rest of.the fight.

I by no means like Machida but his style won him a belt, people have just figured him out and don't throw flurries at him for him to be able to counter punch. Needs to be a little more aggressive but that style won him a belt so I think it has served him well.

He gets the KO by countering or catching guys, im not sure those flurries have won him any KOs? Maybe the Rashad fight but iirc, i think he got him by the left hand counter to set it off? Bisping is much more active than Machida btw, not saying better but much more active.

Machida doesn't need to change his style, he just needs to be more aggressive and get the KO like he did in the past. He had 1 offensive flurry in this last fight with Davis what he needed was to have one every round. he's 2-2 in his last 4 decisions-all of them very close and could have gone either way. fair in my eyes. The person that needs to change his style is bisbing. boring.

Live by the sword die by the sword. Machida's won some close decisions, and lost a few. Nobody to blame but himself.
