Chael calls out Wand, Vitor calls out Chael, Chael accepts

Following his crushing of Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua Saturday night, Chael Sonnen called out Wanderlei Silva from inside the Octagon, in characteristically epic fashion:

"I'm the man of the hour, Joe, too sweet to be sour, what you see is what you get and what you don't is better yet. I'm the women's pick and the men's regret and if you went against Chael Sonnen you made a bad bet.

"Now, right here on the UFC's new home, FOX Sports 1, Wanderlei Silva, six feet tall, 205 pounds, boy until I met you, I didn't know they stacked crap that high! Whoa, whoa, whoa I will let you know when I'm done Joe. I just got done with a world champion, if you think I want to add a middle-aged comedian just for the goddamn pleasure of it, you better think again!

"Wanderlei Silva, in three months, you and the bad guy!"

Then Vitor Belfort took to Twitter and lived up to the words of UFC president Dana White who recently said of in jest of The Phenom "I wanted Machida to fight Vitor Belfort, but Vitor Belfort is his own matchmaker, apparently."

Vitor Belfor @vitorbelfort
•@sonnench don't run from me. Why are u asking for wand? Let's fight.
•@sonnench let's fight Why u are asking for wand , u have to fight me. Lets do it @danawhite @lorenzofertitta

This was an abrupt about face for Belfort, who had previously said that he was the #1 contender at 185, and thus would take nothing but a title shot. Say what you will, but Chael Sonnen makes weird things happen.

And in a post fight interview on Fox Sports 1, Sonnen accepted.

"I'm in," said Chael. "If Vitor said my name first, I'm in. That's all you have to do is say my name, you do not have to ask me twice. I'm like Beyonce's child—say my name, say my name."

Adding to the confusion, Lyoto Machida recently accepted a challenge from Belfort.

“I’ve accepted the fight,” Machida told Globo.com. “And I am sure Vitor Belfort will accept, because, as he said, your son does not run from a fight.”

The last sentence was a reference to Belfort questioning Machida's heart and patriotism after 'The Dragon' turned down a last minute offer to fight Jones.

“As a real Brazilian, as the Brazilian national anthem says, ‘you will see that your son does not run from a fight,'" said Belfort at the time, slighting Machida.

So now it is up to Dana White and matchmaker Joe Silva to determine what is really going to happen, and they aren't certain yet of exactly who is fighting who. What is clear, is that Chael Sonnen has placed himself ideally.

“Tonight changed a lot of things for Chael Sonnen,” said White. “He proved that he can beat one of the top guys in the top ten at 205 pounds. Does he want to stay there or does he want to go to 185?

“There are a lot of options for Chael. He can fight at 205 or he can fight at 185. The win over Shogun puts him in a great place at 205, and it puts him in a great place at 185.”

Make the fight, Dana.Let's hope it's in Brazil and let's hope Chael takes the opportunity to be TRT'd to the gills. (Although, maybe the "Brazil commission exception" only applies to Vitor/Brazillian fighters)

Chael would never agree to fight a TRT abuser, he has too much self-respect.

No one is tearing Shogun down. He didn't get finished in the first round against Hendo so that comparison means absolutely nothing. It's the people saying Sonnen got lucky that are tearing down a fighter, not the ones stating facts. In this fight there is no reason to claim "luck" as the reason Sonnen beat Shogun. He trained to fight him, found an opening, took his neck and made him tap. That's not luck, that's being the better fighter on that night. Shogun had nothing for Sonnen on that night. You can say what would have happened in Rd 2 or so on all day long, what happened in the Hendo, Machida, Liddell fights, etc...doesn't change what happened.

Man ... people love to tear down fighters. Rua showed nothing? Had no chance because of that? Just what did Rua show in the first 2 rounds against Hendo? Hmmm? And how did that fight end? Right ... with Rua showing nothing all night! As for who's next for Chael? Gotta be Wandy. Wandy opened his mouth pretty wide and Chael has the right to try to shut it.Chael vs Wandy and then vs Vitor.

There was nothing lucky about that win. Shogun clearly had nothing for him in that fight.

Lucky win? What exactly did Shogun do that makes you think he was going to win? Did he just slip and fall into a guillotine? He just thought there was a wasp on Sonnen's shorts, he didn't really tap? Sun was in his eyes?
