White: Pettis' next fight will be title defense versus TJ Grant

Anthony Pettis would like nothing more than a superfight with Jose Aldo, however UFC President Dana White has confirmed Pettis' next bout will be a title defense against TJ Grant:

Regardless of the back-and-forth, White stepped in earlier this afternoon to take control of the situation and clear the air, telling Kevin Iole of Yahoo!Sports.com that Pettis will make his first title defense against Grant at a future date and event to be determined.

The actual logistics will likely hinge on the health of Pettis' knee, which apparently required a recent MRI to determine if there is any structural damage. Results are "unclear" at this time, unlike Pettis' next opponent.

Yeah, well like I said in my previous post 1. Grant v. Pettis 2. Mendes v. Aldo (hopefully) & if the warrior gods shine upon us [aka both Pettis and Aldo win] 3. Aldo v. Pettis superfight (to me) - 150 lbs catchweight.  No belts, just bragging rights   This way neither champ loses their belt and doesn't tie up a division.  I think that's DFW biggest problem with the Pettis/Aldo idea, he wants a clear champ in each division.  As far as Benson goes, I may be wrong here, but I don't know how quickly they'll give him another title fight.  I think he may be 2 fights away.  IMO the UFC and uncle Dana want a finisher for a champ, not a decision grinder.

Well at least you said it is for you.  Pettis although he was WEC Champ, it only lasted 30 minutes before the company was bought out by the UFC.  And although he just regained the championship, his first and only defense will come across someone who is an accomplished Champion. I do agree that the stand up styles would very entertaining, but looks like Uncle Dana just put a monkey wrench in your fantasy by inserting TJ. TJ is no push over and he comes in with some impressive finishes himself. Finally, even after the TJ v Pettis aftermath, who is to say that Bendo doesn't get chance to win his belt back regardless of who wins? In my opinion, White doesn't want Aldo v Pettis, they are his cash cows.

he got a Lightweight title shot for beating Benson and being the WEC champ, the belts were to be merged. then Gray and Frankie drew and were forced to fight a third time and started the clusterfuck of rematches that continued with Benson vs Frankie. he didn't get a LW title for beating Lauzon and Cerrone.
