Jones: If Anderson Silva wins rematch, superfight 'still on'

When Chris Weidman beat Anderson Silva, UFC lightheavyweight champion Jon Jones sent out a two-word tweet - "This sucks."

Jones has hoped to secure a superfight with Silva, perhaps at Cowboys Stadium. But with the loss went the fight.

Or did it?

In a recent interview with Fighters Only magazine editor Nick Peet, Jones said it could still happen, provided Silva wins the rematch with Weidman at UFC 168.

“Watching UFC 162 was crazy,” recalled Jones. “Just sitting there and registering something like that is mind blowing. To see a great champion and an entire legacy just end like that, it was humbling. It lets you know that it can happen to anyone. You’ve got to take everything and everyone seriously and you’ve got to respect the sport.

“But at the same time I still believe Anderson can come back. He’s still has it and he just got caught basically.”

“All Anderson has to do is win his next fight decisively and there’s the interest right there. It’s still on, the superfight. I’ve never really been overly anxious to face Anderson Silva though to be honest. I knew the fight could happen but I never had any desire to be the one to beat him or anything like that.

“After he lost I Tweeted about my disappointment and that him losing sucked, but it was just because watching a champion lose always sucks. It’s like he’s also a member of this special league of gentlemen and when you see one of the guys get taken down it sucks. But Anderson, and any thought of a superfight, well, it’s still there.”

Plus of course Jones has to win his title defense vs Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 165 September 21, 2013 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, live on PPV

"Alexander is tall, he has a presence," said Jones. "So I choose to look him in the eyes to let him know that I’m here, I’m the same height, I embrace us being the same height, and I want to let him know there’s only room for one tall guy in there.”

Jones must be a huge Silva fanboy himself since he never seems to "support" Weidman (a fellow New Yorker). Silva as champion makes the division boring again. Would rather Weidman keep the belt.

I definitely would favor Jones but Anderson does have some great moves and if he hurt Jones I would expect a finish.

Never happen. IF Silva wewre to reclaim the title there would be a rubbermatch between him and Wiedman, or Anderson would retire. He can't beat Jones adn he knows it.

Won't be buying the PPV?let me ask you, are you lying, or stupid? Which is it?Regardless of what reasons you have of not liking this fight, 1) It would be historical. 2) There would be other great fights on the card most likely worthy of main event status. 3) Nobody can say how this fight is going to go for sure.So again I ask, are you lying about not ordering this fight? Or just stupid?

I would be shocked if Silva accepted a fight with Bones.

Ok. Silva needs to win the rematch. But is Jones forgetting he should win his upcoming fight also before he starts talking about Silva's rematch. And really, Its not Jones or Silva who decide their fight is a superfight. The FANS decide if its a superfight or just a fight. So all this crying about superfight and superfight callouts. Just phucking fight each other and the fans will decide if this is a superfight.
