Jones earns decision win over Gustafsson, defends light heavyweight title

The UFC 165 main event featured a light heavyweight title between champion Jon Jones and challenger Alexander Gustafsson and aired live on PPV.

The UFC light heavyweight champion and MMA's top pound-for-pound fighter has largely looked untouchable in his romp through the sport. So few thought that his challenger on Saturday night at UFC 165, Alexander Gustafsson, had much of a chance of claiming the crown.

Instead, we got the first back-and-forth classic fight of Jones' career and the new frontrunner for Fight of the Year. Gustafsson, a minus-700 underdog, gave Jones all he could handle for 25 minutes. In the end, Jones turned it on in the late rounds and retained his title via unanimous decision at Toronto's Air Canda Centre. The judges' scores were 48-47, 48-47, and 49-46, all for the champion.

Even most pro's though AG won that fight, so piss off with your irrelevant senario's. Been scoring and betting serious coin on mma since it's been around, so saying I don't understand how judging works is bullshit. Read, read, and read some more and maybe you'll understand a little more about mma and the scoring problems that are present at most events. MMA judging is broken and needs to be looked at asap because poor decisions are impacting the sport in a big way.

Gustafsson clearly won round 4 , he pounded Jones for 4 minutes and jones responded with 3 elbows before getting taken down by Alex late in the 4thThe 4th round was a 10-8. Alex takes Jon down in the last 10 seconds of the 4th round, but decides to stand instead of jumpin on Jon.Alex Landed 88 head strikes meanwhile Jon only landed 18 up until 1 minute left in the 4th. proof : http://oi39.tinypic.com/2d9uvr9.jpgAlex didn't wobble, his knees didn't buckle, his eyes didn't roll back. he defended himself very smart, calm and collective and was never really hurt, even thou Joe Rogan thought so and screamed "he's hurt! he's hurt!" just because Alex's gas tank was low and Jon Jones made a desperate attempt to survive but couldn't do enough to win the round.Gus was gassed because he worked his footwork like nobody else does.Jon was gassed because of all the massive impact strikes he received during the fight.

I don't understand two things about this post...1. I'm not sure if you understand judging works, so I wanted to frame the question and then see if you still feel the same way about it. But if these were just two guys fighting on the street for 5 minutes before the cops came and broke them up. And the full fight which lasted 5 minutes consisted of that 4th round... Gus slightly but clearly getting the better of Jones for 4 minutes, and then being destroyed for the last minute... who would you judge the fight for? In that context (the actual context you are suppose to judge fights with) I really don't get how anyone could give that round to Gus.2. Almost everyone agrees that rounds 1-3 were extremely close. And a lot of people also feel like round 5 was close enough to go either way. How in the world does that equate to "shitty judging"? Shitty judging isn't when the judges don't agree with your opinion, it's when the judges make a decision that can't be logically explained. Things like moving forward being mistakenly considered as octagon control, when in reality whoever is dictating the fighting distance (and or position) is really who has octagon control. I try to avoid arguing when there's no possibility of a resolution... but I read your post and I just had to ask.

What a pathetic robbery! 120+ significant head strikes landed, Jones is 1-9 in takedowns, can barely walk out of the ring on his own, busted up face, yet he wins?At the very best Jones should have gotten a draw, you don't WIN a fight like that. The judge who scored it 49-46 should be fired on the spot. MMA judging is a complete joke, and this fight serves as prime example as to why.
