Frankie Edgar: I may retire BJ Penn

Frankie Edgar beat BJ Penn twice, and in an appearance on UFC Tonight said he thinks he has Penn's number, and may retire him.

First of course the pair will coach opposite each other on Season 19 of The Ultimate Fighter.

"I do think I have his number," said Edgar. "Every fight is different. I'm going to approach this as a new challenge. I'm not thinking he's going to come in the same as he did the last two. I expect him to come in and change a little. I want to show my improvement over the last three years. I think he was kind of close to retirement and I think another loss will maybe decide it for him."

What do you think UG? Could Frankie Edgar retire BJ Penn?

imo someone with 1 win out of any 7 fight stretch should not be able to fight again in the UFC. Even if he doesn't retire, Dana needs to drop him and make room for new fighters. I would be shocked if there was any fighter ever in the history of the Zuffa owned UFC who kept a roster spot with a stretch of 7 fights with just 1 win

well considering if he loses this fight, he would have 1 win in his last 7 fights and 3 of those losses were against Frankie, I think it is safe to say that if he retires you have to really say it was because of Frankie. If Frankie didn't beat him twice already he would have never went upto 170 and lost there a bunch of times. I don't see a problem with saying Frankie retired BJ. I don't even see how you could argue that he didn't.

i dont see why anything he said is bad. If he loses to Edgar you think he will continue fighting?

That's kind of a meaningless statement. If BJ doesn't win the fight, yes, he may retire. His head has been thinking about retirement for a while, so losing his next fight, no matter who it would be against, may cause him to hang em up. Kind of funny to try and take "credit" if it happens.

Two exciting fighters, a legend and fan favorite in BJ. Edgar who always brings everything he's got. Pretty much classic fight material. Nah no one wants to see this fight
