Julie Kedzie to fight debuting Russian Alexandra Albu on Dec 6

Women's MMA pioneer Julie Kedzie was on a two-fight losing streak, but was signed by the UFC anyway, based no doubt on her nearly decade of excellence in women's MMA. Kedzie lost her UFC debut at UFC on Fox 8, to Germaine de Randamie via split decision

Under the gun, the veteran now faces undefeated but inexperienced Russian fighter Alexandra "Stitch" Albu at UFC Fight Night 33, on Dec. 6, in Brisbane, Australia.

Headlined by Mark Hunt vs. Antonio Silva, UFN 33 will be broadcast live on FOX Sports 1.

I don't think it's the perceived thinness of the division that brought about this signing. The UFC are looking to move into Russia. Probably in 2014. As part of the build up towards this they are signing and showcasing Russian fighters. Albu has some skills so she's a logical choice to add to the roster.

I'm fuckin' stoked to see this fight. If I didn't already have a ticket bought I'd be buying one to watch Kedzie fight.

First off, I'm not trying to compare them to the men, so I don't know why you're bringing that up. Also, I'm giving people with better resumes, not records. I could post people like Paloma Fabrykant (4-0) but I have my doubts about the strength of schedule fighting entirely in Argentina has. This strength-of-schedule thing may seem strange to you but it's why I'd favor Kaitlyn Young (7-8-1) over Adrienna Jenkins (17-5) any day. And if you'd like me to add more non UFC fighters, here you go:   36) Ana Maria (5-4) (free agent) 37) Marciea Allen (2-1) (free agent) 38) Agnieszka Niedzwiedz (4-0) (free agent) 39) Juliete Silva (3-1) (free agent) 40) Aline Serio (5-4) (free agent) These are all people with definitively superior resumes, 20 of whom are not with the UFC. If I wanted to name people with prettier records on paper I might be able to take that to 60 but that'd be kind of pointless. So yeah, with regards to your main point that you seem rather hung up on that the UFC must have knowingly signed a fighter with a 1-0 record because Women's Bantamweight is so weak and all that they just didn't have people to choose from, I just listed 20 people who are better choices. All of those people I didn't mark "UFC" are people they had to choose from including her fellow Russian Milana Dudieva who actually is quite legit. Apparently Albu's agent, who also is the agent for about a dozen other UFC fighters including Khabib Nurmagomedov and Jim Miller, sold Sean Shelby on her, and on her record. I personally think its a silly signing and she looks closer to Strawweight than Bantamweight to me, but whatev. We'll see how she handles Kedzie.
