Julianna Pena: Rousey ‘doesn't know how to lose gracefully'

Wednesday night Raquel Pennington beat Jessamyn Duke by unanimous decision in a fight that was great for the sport, great for WMMA, and great for Team Tate, which now pulls ahead 3-2. Coach Ronda Rousey was not happy, and rather than offering rival coach Miesha Tate a congratulatory handshake, she flipped her off.

In an interview with MMAFighting's Shaun Al-Shatti, Team Tate's No. 1 pick, Julianna Pena, expresses her thoughts.

Shaun Al-Shatti: I'm curious, who did you score it for?

Julianna Pena: I thought it went to Raquel. For the most part the fight was pretty dang even. I actually like how Jessamyn finished strong, but the only reason why I give the advantage to Raquel is because of damage. Raquel had a pretty nasty cut on her eyebrow, but otherwise she barely had a scratch on her. And Jessamyn looks like she got beat with a bat in the face. She looked f---ed up.

SAS: At the end of the episode, Ronda Rousey flipped the bird when Miesha Tate tried to shake her hand? Did everyone see that or was that just for the cameras?

JP: I think that was just the cameras. I didn't see that. But I had known that Ronda was saying things to her, Ronda being like, ‘You smiling at my girl's pain is another reason why I'm gonna f---ing destroy you.' Like, I saw that, so I'd known that she was running her mouth and constantly saying stuff. But I didn't know she'd flipped her off.

SAS: What are your thoughts on that?

Pena: You know, what do you say to somebody who's like that? I like her spirit, I like her attitude. They don't like to lose. Nobody likes to lose. That's cool that she's very ‘about' her team. On the flip side, I feel like it's classless to act so -- what's the word? -- like, with such big bravado. The girl is like, ‘I'm the f---ing s---, so I can't lose.' She doesn't know how to lose gracefully, and that's okay because she's the champion and there's a reason for that. I like her style. However, I don't think it would've killed her to be a little more professional.

LOL at this comment: "I  got, like, ambushed by a drunk (Team Rousey assistant coach) Marina (Shafir), telling me that if I didn't choose a better side, that when the show comes out, everything in my life was going to be a lot more terrible, media-wise. Basically she was threatening me."

Hatred sells , good for Ronda I hope everyone hates her, It will make her more money. I didn't think much of Ronda at first but the more people hate on her, the more I become a fan. I love rooting for "the bad guy" simply because people are suckers.

Ronda came in third at the 2008 Olympics, which for a lot of people would be the height of their athletic career, but now I'd be curious to know how Rousey reacted after receiving her bronze metal (according to Wikipedia: Judo offers two bronze medals per weight class). She comes off as super competitive on the show, and reacts as if she's never lost at anything athletically, even though we know she has. That perception is most likely heavily influenced by the editing, which tends to focus on that one aspect of Ronda and her staff of coaches's behavior, i.e. creating conflict for entertainment's sake.

At first before Ronda came intot he UFC I ws a fan. You know everyone was talking about her arm bars and all that. Then I started watching some of her interviews adn what was coming out of her month. It turned me from a Fan and someone who supported her to not liking her at all.I've never Hated her but I just didn't like her sorry attitude and the way she held herself. After watching thsi seasons TUF my opinions changed from Not liking her to thinking she's got some screws loose. I just don't think I can ever be a fan of her and can't wait till she loses. Especially her comments about fighting for 2 more years and then shes off to be a "Movie Star".I agree with the post.I relly don't think she can be a gracious loser and if Tate beat her I seriously think she would end up flipping out like Forrest running out of the cage and maybe even worse. right now she just doens't think her shit stinks.I hope Tate wins but I wouldn't bet on it. Ronda is a tough girl, just doesn't have any class.Don't know who would beat her ATM. I don't think she would last one round if she got into the cage with Cyborg.Just tired of Ronda's flapping lips and everything about her. It's obvious to anyone watching that she's gonna need some therapy after all of this is said and done.

Getting real old at this point is probably why there are not many responses.  All i know is Rouseys fan base is not what is used to be and Meishas seem to be getting stronger.
