Velasquez passed on submitting JDS to prove point

Junior Dos Santos knocked out Cain Velasquez in the first round the first tie they met. Velasquez beat up Dos Santos for five rounds in the second match, however Velasquez believes he could have submitted him, but just didn't want to:

From the earlier moments of that bout, it was clear that Velasquez on that night was the far better man.

Velasquez had several opportunities to end dos Santos' night early by grabbing a submission. Velasquez, though, eschewed the numerous submission opportunities that presented themselves during the fight.

This was no accident. Velasquez is an accomplished jiu-jitsu player and was recently awarded his black belt. He'll fight dos Santos for the third time Saturday in the main event of UFC 166 with the heavyweight belt again at stake in Houston's Toyota Center.

Velasquez, who had lost his title to dos Santos at UFC on Fox 1 on Nov. 12, 2011, made a conscious effort to skip the submission the last time out as a way of making a brutal and painful point.

"My style of fighting, I'd rather end fights with ground and pound and stuff like that," Velasquez told Yahoo Sports. "I felt he took something away from me that was mine, and I figured I had to make him pay for that. That's why I didn't go for the submission."

Some lighter weights don't even throw that many punches in a 5 rounder. Insane.

Looks like I was right. Cain had the upperhand in the rematch. That's what happens when you beat someone's ass for 25 minutes. It gives you the upper hand in a rematch.   Good afternoon, good evening, and goodnight.

Yea I don't think that it's quite true TBH but I don't think it's important either really. I think it's a strange thing to keep saying too. Maybe it was always just to try to get in JR's head? I think he was there already and there was no need.Hell JR. is also saying he does not know what went wrong. If serious that's a big deal for sure.

I'd love to see Cain drop to 205 and take out Jones. Straps from 2 divisions. And it lets Cormier stay at HW so he doesn't suicide himself with the cut.
