Barnett subject to WADA testing for all of 2014

I can imagine that today may set the precedent from here on and random testing may become the standard for the sport of MMA

UFC heavyweight champion Josh Barnett was licensed today at a Nevada State Athletic Commission hearing, subject to unpredented drug testing. Barnett appeared before the board via telephone, to get licensed to fight Travis Brown at UFC 169 on Dec 28.

According to the official motion, Barnett will be "subjected to enhanced, intensive, weekly testing by the WADA lab at the expense of Mr. Barnett or UFC and that he also be subjected to random testing by the Nevada State Athletic Commission through Dec. 31, 2014 to be paid by him or the UFC."

MMAJunkie's John Morgan broke the story.

Barnett and his attorneys appeared in person as the 16-year veteran addressed in detail his previous failed post-fight drug tests in Nevada in 2001 and 2002, as well as a 2009 pre-fight test in California.

Barnett maintained that the failed 2001 and 2002 tests were due to the use of supplements that were later reclassified as anabolic steroids while contending the 2009 test was likely due to contaminated supplements. "The Warmaster" said he now largely avoids supplements due to the past issues and does not ever intend to petition the commission for a therapeutic-use exemption for testosterone replacement therapy, despite his age.

He also maintained there would be no further excuses moving forward.

Dude has already reaped an incredible amount of gains from his continuous steroid usage whether he's clean or not now.

He has been popped for steroids 4 times. And this is by far the most serious testing he has ever been subjected to. Wouldn't be surprised if he got caught again.

That's what happens when you fail your drug tests three [THREE] times and no show all Athletic Commission meetings.

Good to hear....hope the shut up all the people bitching and moaning about his prior pinches.Big fan of the Warmaster. And due to a the rather surprising developments in the heavyweight division i actually do think another titleshot would be a possibility (would be very sweet though unfortunately i never see him beat can hope though).

I still hold a grudge -- and always will -- against barnett not for being a repeat cheater, but for burying affliction, the only organization that posed a real threat to the UFC, and never manning up to it. I like Josh as a fighter, and enjoy watching him compete, but as a person, i have absoultely no respect for him.   Guys like chris leben, conversely, that are capable of getting caught red handed and professing almost involuntarily " yeah, I did it, i cheated, timed my cycle wrong, and got caught", guys like that i have tremendous respect for.   Tainted supplements three fucking times? And litterally at the expense of an entire company and never so much as an apology..... no class in that gentleman.

1 more thing to add. If the UFC and the Athletic Commisions want the sport to really be clean they would pay for everyone to be tested like the Olympic's does. And common sense says use Olympic testing. It's the world standard no excuses if you get popped. These slime balls want and need the fines from failed tests they dont want sports to be clean.
