Machida vs. Mousasi official for Feb 8th in Brazil

Less than a week removed from his knockout of Mark Munoz and debut in the middle weight division, Lyoto Machida already has his next opponent lined up:

After smashing his way into the middleweight rankings via a first-round knockout of Mark Munoz at last weekend's event in Manchester, former light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida will now get a fight closer to home.

Machida's next assignment comes in the form of a five-round main event against former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi, who's currently ranked eighth in the light heavyweight division. The matchup is scheduled to take place February 8 in Jaragua do Sol, Brazil, in an event televised on FOX Sports 2.

No. I didn't say anything about whether he has faced wrestlers or strikers. I just said he has faced better competition, in general, as a whole. This is not K1, it is the UFC. It has been shown time after time that success and/or KOs in the K1 do not equate to KOing everybody in the UFC. I never said that Machida KOd everybody, I said that his overall striking is at a higher level than Mousasi. His footwork better, his punches straighter, his kicks more powerful, and he has a lot of power and fantastic TD defense at 185. Now Gegard has power, great ground game and chin, I just don't think that he is as skilled as Machida. Although he has mostly KOd wrestlers, lets not underestimate his striking. He is one of the most dangerous strikers in the sport. I don't think Mousasis kicks and overall striking are enough to keep Machida at bay, and I also think Machida has a speed advantage. Both guys have power so the fight could change in an instant and Gegard could get the win. I'm just saying I would favor Machida.

-340 is a little much in my opinion.Machida is an elite 185er but him being this big of a favorite doesn't make sense to me.Maybe something around -200/-250 at most.Mousasi is an elite striker and it's not hard to think he could outstrike Machida.Ring rust will be the biggest concern I think.

YESYESYESYESTwo of my favorite fighters. I think Machida takes it, but this will be a real indicator of where the Moose's striking has been all along<iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/md_8WJzhsow" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

gegard barely won against fucking jardine (i know it was officially a loss)   beat jacare by a upkick   and got fucking dominated by king momo   kermit always has had his share of nuthuggers for some reason.   anyway, right here: machida wins and it will not be close.    the 2nd machida era is upon us.
