Hendricks: I lose 45 lbs. in 8 weeks

Like it or not weight cutting is and will be a part of mixed martial arts for the foreseable future. Most believe it is advantagous to cut weight and come in heavier than your opponent the next night. Opponents say the process can be detrimental to your ability to fight all three or five rounds and even to your health.

Johny Hendricks has cut weight his whole life as a wrestler and he might cut more weight than any other fighter in the welterweight divisin:

Johny Hendricks walks around well over 200 pounds.

But, once he gets closer to a fight, Hendricks begins shedding the pounds.

He’s currently in the process of doing just that, as “Bigg Rigg” takes on UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre next Saturday at UFC 167.

“I follow The Dolce Diet for every training camp,” wrote Hendricks, who conducted a Q&A session on Twitter Thursday night. “Mostly lean protein and whole foods. I lose 45 lbs in 8 weeks.”

This fight is going to come down to cardio. If Hendricks can stay fresh for the duration he has a good chance of becoming the new champion, IMO.

Hmm dieting down 45 pounds from 225 then cutting 10 pounds of water weight sounds healthly to me. :)

I feel like ballooning up between fights could help with repairing of injuries with the body having so many calories to use. Just a theory.

Hendricks just comes into camp fat and diets down most of the weighThe difference between this and a 45lb cut (i.e. of water and rehydrating/eating 45lbs the next day) is not just semantic, it is not even comparableWeight on fight night is the stat that matters, not weight before training camp

That can't be healthy. He probably cuts at least 15 to 20 the last day.

He looks like a mesomorph. Anthony Johnson was a much bigger man for 170. I don't see Hendricks being all that big really, like the buddy who posted above he gets chubby in between fights. If you're 5'9 fighting higher than 170 isn't a smart idea imo, he's definitely huge for his height.
