Like it or not weight cutting is and will be a part of mixed martial arts for the foreseable future. Most believe it is advantagous to cut weight and come in heavier than your opponent the next night. Opponents say the process can be detrimental to your ability to fight all three or five rounds and even to your health.
Johny Hendricks has cut weight his whole life as a wrestler and he might cut more weight than any other fighter in the welterweight divisin:

But, once he gets closer to a fight, Hendricks begins shedding the pounds.
He’s currently in the process of doing just that, as “Bigg Rigg” takes on UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre next Saturday at UFC 167.
“I follow The Dolce Diet for every training camp,” wrote Hendricks, who conducted a Q&A session on Twitter Thursday night. “Mostly lean protein and whole foods. I lose 45 lbs in 8 weeks.”
