They say of New England, if you don't like the weather, wait a minute. You might say the same thing about a fight card you don't like a fight card in Vegas. Just a day ago it was announced that UFC 170 was to be headlined by Jon Jones vs. Glover Teixeira.
Today, shortly before the UFC 167 press conference in Las Vegas, UFC president Dana White learned that Jones would not be available. Jones' decision was apparently sudden, as this morning Jones tweeted about the Feb 22 fight; the tweet has since been removed.
Although White declined to relate the reason for the very sudden change, Kevin Iole is reporting via Twitter that it is due to the foot injury Jones suffered in his last fight.
"So @JonnyBones' foot still isn't 100 percent," tweeted Iole. "Hopes to start training early Jan. and fight in early spring. Feb. was too soon."
This is now the second time Jones vs. Teixeira has been announced, and the changed. The fight was originally scheduled for the Super Bowl SaturdayUFC 169 super show. Four days later, that one was scrapped.
The Jones vs. Glover fight is still going to happen, perhaps as early as March.
No new main event for UFC 170 has been announced.
