Official Rankings 11.18.13: Lots of movement at welterweight

by Chris Palmquist |

After each live event, the UFC polls various members of the media to update its Rankings in each weight division as well as the pound for pound rankings.

With several meaningful bouts at last weekend's UFC 167, there was a lot of movement in the welterweight rankings:

Champion : Georges St-Pierre

1 Johny Hendricks

2 Carlos Condit

3 Robbie Lawler +7

4 Rory MacDonald -1

5 Jake Ellenberger -1

6 Demian Maia -1

7 Jake Shields

8 Matt Brown

9 Martin Kampmann -3

10 Nick Diaz -1

The  numbers after each athlete represent their movement from their previous rankings. The big winner in this week's rankings is of course Robbie Lawler, who moved up seven spots by beating Rory MacDonald, who was previously ranked third and moved down one spot.

The shuffle of Lawler up seven spots meant several fighters had to drop a spot to make room, including Jake Ellenberger, Demian Maia, Martin Kampmann, & Nick Diaz.

I know I shouldn't bite but...if just one judge had switched his vote from GSP to Hendricks in the first round Hendricks would have won. It was a razor-thin decision but GSP is the official winner.  Hendricks certainly deserves an immediate rematch but obviously GSP has to go on top by way of being champion.

I realize GSP has to be #1 by way of default right now, but realistically shouldn't they put his name below Hendricks anyway?

I don't really understand why Matt Brown is high on the list as he is. He is on a great streak, but both Kampman and Woodley have beaten much better opposition Than Brown has. I would think this is more correct:1 Johny Hendricks 2 Carlos Condit 3 Robbie Lawler4 Jake Shields 5 Rory MacDonald6 Demian Maia7 Jake Ellenberger8 Martin Kampmann9 Tyron Woodley10 Matt Brown
