Ellenberger injured, out of UFN 35 main event

Former Strikeforce welterweight champion Tarec Saffiedine was scheduled to make his UFC debut against top ten welterweight Jake Ellenbeger, but seems as though he will likely have a new opponent:

The long-awaited UFC debut of Tarec Saffiedine has been thrown another curveball.

The former Strikeforce welterweight champion was set to headline UFC’s first trip to Singapore on Jan. 4 against Jake Ellenberger, but "Sponge" is currently waiting for a new opponent. Ellenberger confirmed the news with MMAFighting.com, citing a pulled muscle. He will not need surgery.

Update: It seems as though Saffiedine may already have a replacement bout lined up, as Koren Hyun Gyu Lim has accepted the bout. It is likely to remain the night's main event.

Tickets have been on sale for a couple of weeks, still plenty left. What does MBS seat, 5,000 or so?The economics of a casino fight (non Vegas) have to be different, not sure the gate matters so much when they want to use the event to bring in high rollers. I heard the last UFC in Macao was at a fairly small venue at the casino and had plenty of empty seats as well.I'm going but very disappointed in the card. So many fighters who are making their UFC debut (incl in main event), many of the fighters on the main card would be on the undercard anywhere else and most of the undercard would not be considered UFC calibre if the event was elsewhere.Looking forward to it just because it is still the UFC and you never know how exciting a card will be beforehand. - Koga!

You're able to keep up with the sport better than I am. I guess there is little use in beating a dead horse but the problem for me is the over saturation. It becomes a downward spiral. The more events I miss because I 1) can't or don't want to spend over $1000 a year on PPVs, 2) forget or don't even know an event is coming up, 3) record an event but before I have time to watch it another is on live, the less I am able to follow the sport. The less I am able to follow the sport the less I care..and so forth. It seems we are in for a treat in 2014 and while it's hard to want to complain about more UFC - I think there are real issues with having so many events. Let's face it, if we are the "hardcore" fans, and, we are, because we post here, most of us read the site every day and watch as much as we can - and we don't even know half the fighters on the card, there is a problem.

want a cookie? card is garbage, and a result of over-saturation. i'd take quality over quantity. but quantity means more money for that bald goof.

Man...I used to know every fighter on the UFC's roster. If being perfectly honest I only recognize 3 names on that card.

Do casual's know who Ellenburger is though?  Given it's a fight night card that's going to air either tape delayed or at a non-standard time you're not going to get big names on the card.  For casuals I think having an asian name probably carries more weight than being a mid tier or even a borderline contending fighter.
