Tate: I am really thankful for Rousey

UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey and challenger Miesha Tate are bitter rivals. But in an interview with MMAJunkie, Tate offered an aware view of it all.

“Ronda said some things that really got under my skin,” said Tate of the last fight. “She plays the mental warfare game. I didn’t want to fight her because I love fighting; I wanted to fight her because I wanted to beat her up.”

“The biggest thing for me is just remembering to be myself, be on an even keel, and not allow anyone, particularly Ronda, to make me emotional. Really, that’s been the biggest change.”

“I’m really thankful that Ronda has been a part of my life and career. Is she my favorite person on a personal level? No. Do I appreciate the fact that I’m a better person because she’s been a part of my life? Absolutely. Do I think I’m a better fighter for having her in my life? Without a doubt."

"Most of the credit of where women’s MMA is at this point has to go to (Rousey). But I do want to change that. I would like to be more of a part of it. I would also like to do that with a smile on my face.”

“She can choose to handle my actions however she wants. But I’m doing what I do, and I’m not going to let Ronda dictate that.”

Miesha almost lost to the unranked Kedzie last year. Imagine if that had been Davis or Carmouche in that cage? She would be looking at a three fight losing streak. So that means no free coaching spot or gifted title shot. She should be eternally thankful that Ronda hates her, because that's the only reason she's still relevant in her division.

Miesha is very entitled and thinks Ronda stole everything from her. The funny thing is her reign would have been short regardless if Ronda came down in weight. Remember that Kaufman was the rightful number one contender at the time and there was going to be a rematch. If you watched the first fight, it was a very one sided affair. Sarah stuffed almost every single take down and used Miesha as a punching bag for three rounds. Neither one has evolved much since that fight so the rematch is probably more of the same. Miesha would have lost to Davis as well. She's just better everywhere. Add in Zingano and McMann, and Miesha is lucky to be 5th best in her division. And that's without Ronda being in the picture.

Miesha seems cool and all that, but I don't know where her career goes from here. I frankly think a lot of women in her weight class are better: Rousey, Zingano, Alexis Davis, Kaufman, and McMann. She'd also have a hard time with Carmouche and her own protege, Pena imo.
