Sefo: WSoF would do very well vs. Bellator

World Series of Fighting (WSoF) matchmaker Ali Abdelaziz recently proposed a WSoF vs. Bellator card on PPV, winner take all (PPV revenue):
Tyrone Spong vs. Quinton Jackson
Anthony Johnson vs. Attila Vegh
Andrei Arlovski vs. Vitaly Minakov
Marlon Moraes vs. Eduardo Dantas
Yushin Okami vs. Alexander Shlemenko
Rousimar Palhares vs. Douglas Lima
Justin Gaethje vs. Eddie Alvarez (or Michael Chandler)
Georgi Karakhanyan vs. Daniel Straus
Jon Fitch vs. Rick Hawn
David Branch vs. Brett Cooper

WSOF President Ray Sefo appeared recently on Sherdog Radio Network’s “Beatdown” show, and said he is still waiting to hear from Bellator.

“We wanted to make something exciting for the fans as well as the world of MMA, so we issued the challenge,” said Sefo. “We’ll just wait and see if it happens or not.”

“I haven’t actually heard what was said, but apparently there was words going back and forth between Ali and Rebney. I think that’s where all this came from and then Ali talked to me about it. I thought, ‘Hey, listen. It’s a great idea. Let’s make it happen.’ So when he went on the MMA Hour and announced it, we were well prepared for it. Now it’s a waiting game, whether it’s going to happen or not.”

“In this situation, it’s not just the one fight or one fighter. Ali put a card out there and matched up certain people, and if they come through with it, great. If not, listen, I think either way, it’s going to be great for the sport and I’m sure something the fans are very excited about because everybody’s blowing me up on Facebook, on Twitter. Social media is just going crazy since this announcement was made. I think it’s only going to benefit the sport in the long run.”

“If they agree to the proposal that Ali put out, then we’ll do a whole card rather than just a one-off fight. … If this is going to happen, then it’s going to be a whole card. That’s the only way that would work.”

“I think we would do very well. Ali’s a great matchmaker. He’s proven that time and time again, and when I looked at the list, I was like, ‘OK, great.’”

How do you think think the fights above would go?

You ask for what you want. #1 step of any negotiation.

I agree with this in premise, but the caveat of winner take all is what makes it more interesting. If an inferior organization calls you out like this, and you know that you are the superior organization, you need to step up and stomp them down. If you so believe that your fighters are better, here is an event to prove it. Plus both orgs will gain fans for having the balls to bang instead of playing it safe, and this event would put up big numbers and likely be covered by many more outlets than they are otherwise, thus giving both orgs more exposure and legitimacy. Moraes vs Eduardo sounds epic though.

Why challenge somebody and pick all the match-ups? Champ vs champ is the only way to do this.

They sure do.  YOu dont think Bellator could use the promotion?  I do, and i think its great for MMA.  Im not sure who wouldnt tune in to watch this.  Every MMA fan out there will want to see this card PPV or not.     Listen Bellator isnt exactly chomping at the UFCs heels, and they havent exactly been declared the #2 promotion out there.  WSOF is right on their coat tails and they are doing all the right things.     I would love to see this card.

I agree bellator has nothing to gain by helping them.

As a MMA fan, I love this idea. But let's be real here: Bellator would be doing WSOF a huge favor by the exposure. Bellator has nothing to gain from co-promoting w/ an upstart. Also, w/ the wannabe BLAF name Ali Abdelaziz cockriding UFC all day and bad mouthing the other wannabe BLAF, Bjork. You think Bjork and gang want to deal w/ such a person and company?
