NSAC: Belfort TRT will be an issue

Vitor Belfort, 36, has won three fights in a row via head kick, a first for the UFC. He is schedule to fight Chris Weidman this Summer in Las Vegas. Belfort said recently that he intends to apply for a Therapeutic Use Exemption for Testosterone Replacement Treatment, as he has for his past several fights.

While receiving a license to fight from the Nevada State Athletic Commission will not be an issue, getting a TUE will. No fighter has ever neen granted a TUE following a failed test for PED abuse.

“I think TRT is something new, and [an exemption] hasn’t been used very frequently,” NSAC chairperson Francisco Aguilar told MMAjunkie. “To have it regulated in regards to Mr. Belfort, it’s new territory for us. But I don’t think that sways the decision one way or the other.”

Aguilar said that while the regulatory body has “some concerns about his past,” and will want to hear testimony from “the parties involved,” he added, “giving him a license is not going to be a problem... The issue is going to come from a TRT exemption."

Belfort will have to provide extensive documentation of his medical history, as well as submit to blood tests in order to prove he needs hormone replacement. He is likely to utilize blood tests in connection with exemptions he’s received from the Brazilian athletic commission overseeing his past three UFC fights, all of which he’s finished by highlight-reel knockout.

Significantly, Belfort will need to sign an affidavit that certifies he has never used performance-enhancing drugs, which, according to an NSAC judgement, he has.

“I don’t want to speculate on [whether Belfort will get an exemption] until I hear the full story,” said Aguilar said. “I think we’ve dealt with some pretty unique issues with different fighters, and we’ve got to take each issue individually.”

"I hope that someone here might understand and entertain my question. Logically speaking, if you assume he is roiding and you assume that even guys who are not getting a TUE exemption are roiding yet not getting caught (and most people seem to), then he has gained no benefit by getting the TRT TUE."Im not sure how to explain this more clearlyFighters who are roiding and quitting just before the test do it because its their only way of beating the test, if you offered them a TUE they would gladly take it because its a far better solution for them. They arent doing this because its the optimal way but because a 25 year old is probably not going to get a TUE and they risk PR backlashNow there are people who have access to designer drugs and dont have to worry about stopping their usage but they are a small small elite. If you are a doctor, you should comprehend just how badly your body will suffer by quitting exogenous testosterone injections cold turkey and then have no natural testosterone in your body before a fight. Meanwhile Vitor can keep injecting exogenous testosterone leading into the fight and at worst have the levels of a 19 year oldYou should also know (since you are a doctor) that measuring blood plasma levels of testosterone can be easily manipulated, i can have supraphysiological levels one week and then drop down the next, its all about calculating the weight of the ester and the time/days. So its a misconception that you get tested morea carbon isotope test is far far harder to beat than manipulating blood levelsOlympic athletes have to report their whereabouts to USADA/WADA and can be called upon at any time to give urine/blood. And TUEs pretty much dont exist, they are incredibly strict with giving them outBut in MMA a former steroid abuser who has been caught in the past, can legally use steroids and the only person who is monitoring that he is not abusing them answers to the promoter rather than a government commission!

Can you provide a link to where the Brazilian ACs have stated this?

The source is every AC.As for the pics above, I don't see any significant increase in mass. The biggest difference BY FAR is that he is much leaner in the "after" pic. Which can be attributed to diet.

"So, why not get a TUE to use and give the appearance you're good? It's a win-win imo."Vitor getting a TUE has had these results:1) He has to get blood tested several times in camp and the night of the fight.2) The media and the fans will absolutely not shut the fuck up about it, call him a cheater, and repeatedly call for asterisks to be put by all his wins.WIN-WIN
