Johnson: Lineker should have been cut

Demetrious Johnson is the UFC flyweight champion and will fight whoever is next in line, but Johnson believes John Lineker, who could likely be next, should have been cut already:

“As far as him not making weight three times, he’s still in the UFC, so there’s nothing I can do about it,” Johnson said at today’s UFC on FOX 10 Q&A session. “If it was me, I would have cut him, but that’s just me.”

The UFC has released fighters for such offenses, but Lineker has managed to stick around, likely due to his impressive streak of three consecutive knockout wins.

Lineker’s performances inside the octagon speak volumes. However, Johnson believes those results are tainted. Performing on fight night is one part of the game, but the champion feels discipline when it comes to diet is equally important.

“My coaches tell me I have two jobs to do,” Johnson said. “One is make weight, and [the other is] fight. That’s all I’ve got to do.”

what's sad, is he's missed weight more times that he's actually made weight in the UFC.....

LOL This guy missed weight as many times as Rumble did in half as many fights, and he's in a title eliminator?

^personally, i think this helps some of the issues with cutting weight quite a bit. as it is now, if you miss weight now, you can still get a win, and not have to worry about getting cut, and still make some money with a win.but if you're not able to make more than show money (minus a fine), and not able to add a "W" to your record, i'd suspect that one would take making weight much more seriously, and prolly fight closer to their natural weight to mitigate the risk.

no, i don't. they're the ones that would have the most to lose in the short term. long term, i think you'd see missing weight very rare, and it would work itself it is now, the burden lies solely on the fighters, even when they go the extra mile, it doesn't really benefit them much. who has turned down a catch-weight fight? anyone?

"i'd like to see it changed to the fighter that makes weight gets their show/win money, and the fighter that misses gets the show money, minus the fine. and no fight, either. fighting here doesn't really benefit either fighter..."You think promoters would pay money for a fight that didn't happen???

i really wish the UFC would change how they address missing weight...i really dislike how the burden of a missed weight is placed on the guys that makes weight, in agreeing to a catch-weight fight.i'd like to see it changed to the fighter that makes weight gets their show/win money, and the fighter that misses gets the show money, minus the fine. and no fight, either. fighting here doesn't really benefit either fighter... if you miss weight and win, well, you still cheated by missing weight. if you take the fight after making weight and lose, well, you lost to someone who cheated. there's always an asterisk here on the fight... plus, the guy that makes weight still risks getting injured, especially when someone really misses weight (like Anthony Johnson was known to do).i think if they placed more emphasis on this being a black/white situation instead of a grey area, people would be more apt to make weight. and more than likely, fight closer to their actual weight, and this would deal with some of the weight cutting controversy....

Rumble final straw I'm the UFC was when he moved up to MW to fight Vitor and Docs told him to terminate his weight cut and weighted in at 197lb
