Rashad Evans out six months following knee surgery

Last week it was announced that former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans has injured his knee and was out of the fight vs. Daniel Cormier at UFC 170. Now his BlackZilians management team has announced he will be out for six months.

On February 12, former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans injured his knee during a training session leading up to UFC 170.  After consulting with his doctors, Rashad will undergo surgery this week with Dr. Kvitne in Los Angeles, California. Rashad’s medical team expects him to be out of active training for 6 months.

I am deeply disappointed to be missing the action at UFC 170," said Evans. "But I am, as always, incredibly grateful for the support of my family, friends, management, the UFC, and most of all my fans during this minor setback.  Thank you for your continued messages of support.  I’ll be back stronger than ever!"

Damn, bad news, i was really looking forward to his fight against Cormier, i hope he recovers well. He finally determined against Sonnen, now there is gonna be a longer layoff, he ll be 35 when he comes back into the octagon. Also no luck for Vitor's preparation against Weidman, first he lost sparring partner Thiago Silva, and now Rashad. And Vitor really needs to work against good wrestlers, he's gonna need top notch takedown defense against Weidman. I hope he ll get some good replacements and be in top form on the fight night.

The MMA gods are going to keep putting the UFC's best fighters on the DL until Dana sees a shrink and gets on the right anti-psychotic medication.I said the other day that after saturday night both Machida and Jacare would be out with injuries. I was right (sadly).Over 30% of the UFC's top 10 in each weight class is out with injuries, nearly all of which are knee injuries.Everyone from Cain to Julianna Pena are out. Ronda will blow out her knee at UFC 170. Not wishing harm on anyone, just telling you what's gonna happen. Ronda is the last star to not yet be injured. She's a week away from tearing at least one ACL. Watch and see.

Rashad should use this layoff as his time to transition to MW. There are a lot of great matchups for him in that division. And he would have a realistic shot at the title. I'd pay to see Evans fight any of the top guys at MW. Weidman, Silva (if he returns), Machida, Belfort, Rockhold, Jacare, Munoz... the list goes on.
