White: Anderson Silva could fight in 2014

A healing factor is a staple in Marvel comics characters. When a character like the Wolverine is wounded by Ninjas, his body recovers in an astoundingly short period of time. Life seems to be imitating sequential arts, as Anderson Silva rapidly recovers from his horrific leg break suffered vs. Chris Weidman at UFC 168 on Dec 28.

“We’re not even 48 hours from the surgery, and tibia fractures, though we can get them to heal, can have a slower healing," said Dr. Steven Sanders, who performed the hour-long surgical procedure on the 29th. "If I had to make a guess less than 48 hours from the operation, it would be the fracture healing in three to six months, and attempting to train, six to nine months. You don't rehab a broken bone, it heals itself."

Estou voltando (I'm coming back.)

Now, less than two months from the injury, UFC president Dana White says after speaking with Silva's physician, the former middleweight champion could be fighting before the end of this year.

“So the doctor showed me his bone tonight, his legs,” said White at the UFC 170 post-fight press scrum, as transcribed by 5thRound. “He said, ‘This is actually crazy, look at all the bone growth that he has in eight weeks.

“He said, 'Sometimes you don’t see that kind of bone growth in people in a couple years.’ Pretty crazy.”

When asked how early Silva could be back in the cage, White said "He could fight by the end of the year."

"We'll see what happens. Anything could happen. He could hurt it in training, anything is possible. Or start training again and not feel the same. Anything can happen."

White and ZUFFA CEO Lorenzo Fertitta plan to meet with Silva on Wednesday at his home in Los Angeles.

And Silva's surgeon even said that with a titanium rod in it, the shin will eventually be stronger than it was before...

And in the latest step in is recovery, Silva posted to Instagram a clip of him hitting the pads.

Im sure Dana would love to push him into returning to the Octagon ASAP before he is completely healed. I know Dana is out of PPV stars and really desperate but let the guy heal first before he returns.

Think he should take the derrick rose approach and wait a good year or so till he knows he's 100%

if anderson were to come back, the only way to build on his legacy would be to fight at 170 and get some good wins there. then it'd be like he was a 170lber doing all that stuff he did in his reign. at 185-205 he's already accomplished so much it's basically impossible to build up on it.

OK fine so he's got the super sauce and is healing up faster than any mortal could. Who does he fight next? Surely he doesn't get a third crack at Weidman right away, that would just be ridiculous. He would have to fight someine in the top 5 to get back into title shot contention. Jacre? Rockhold? Belfort (if he loses against Weidman) who else?I don't like his chances against any of the top 5 coming off an injury like this but you can't just gift him another title shot when you've already done that once.

It's not just the leg...when the body is injured like that, other parts of the body contribute to helping maintain the balance thus leading to overcompensation from other parts to help with the injured area...it's not just about healing the injury, it's also getting back to a balanced physiological state. It's way too early for Silva to be considering returning...He's going to rush it and that's not a good idea, IMO...I hope he takes his time.

The same guys will be back on here later talking about how Anderson is past his prime and Dana should have forced retirement.
