Cro Cop: 'Somtimes' kickboxing tougher than MMA

Mirko Cro Cop began his career in kickboxing, spent years doing mixed martial arts, and has now returned to kick boxing. The Croatian heavyweight recently spoke to the 'Fight Channel' and explained how he felt sometimes that kick boxing was harder than MMA:

"Kickboxing is a true fighting sport. All the time you are exchanging punches and kicking. No clinching. Sometimes, it's much more tougher than MMA itself. MMA requires a lot of wrestling and fighting on the ground. From that point, MMA is harder, but kickboxing is much more dynamic. It takes a lot of energy to kick and punch.

Basically, both of them are hard to train for. (Kickboxing) requires more energy because there is more punching, more kicking. In MMA, sooner or later, you come to the clinch and you have the opportunity to hold the guy for 30 seconds, one minute, go to the ground. Here, you have to exchange punches all of the time."

I always think kickboxers look scary, I don't know why. When you go to an event, they always have these super lean tall bodies and yell so loud when they kick.Brutal sport.

Wrestling is the hardest in terms of the cardiovascular demands and the insane training and the sheer grit needed to keep pushing through the mental barrierbut i think kickboxing is far and way the most damaging on the body, even the winners are limping away from the ring half the time. You really have to go and see it live if you can, to appreciate just how tough these guys are. They are kicking the shit out of each other over and over, its incredibly toughif youve never been leg kicked, get a medium sized pre-teen to plant their shin on your thigh ten times as hard as they can. See how that feels - and thats a child doing it. Now try it with a conditioned athlete and your leg is already busted up from the first two rounds

Mirko is right.I fail to see how Wrestling is the toughest sport out there. In no way, shape or form do you take PHYSICAL punishment like you do in striking arts.Look at Ali, for example. Show me a Wrestler that ever come anywhere near that level of damage?Take me down all day. But fuck do I want to be kicked in the head or leg by one of the best strikers on the planet for 15+ minutes.

And many who have done both say kickboxing at the pro level is brutal on the body, more so than mma and wrestling.

You MIGHT be banged up after an MMA fight. You WILL be banged up after a kickboxing fight. Win or lose you are going to take damage, even if it's just from kicking the other person.

I think the greater potential for damage is in kickboxing, but MMA is harder to truly be great at because there's simply so much to learn, and it's physically more grueling because you have to deal with all of the ranges. Like earlier post said though, obviously in an interview to hype his kickboxing fight he's going to say that it's tougher
