Bellator to debut new Everlast MMA glove

Eye injuries due to inadvertent pokes are a regular threat in MMA, and broken hands abound. In an attempt to address those problems, Bellator and parter Everlast have developed a new glove.

Via press release.

Everlast Worldwide Inc. and Bellator MMA, have collaborated to produce the next-generation of MMA fight glove.

Over the last year Everlast product designers have worked closely with Bellator's team and its athletes to create the PowerLock MMA Fight glove. The new glove promotes proper hand form and technique, which can help to reduce the risk of face, hand and wrist injuries. The PowerLock displays a number of improvements over earlier generations of MMA gloves; these changes include a curved striking surface that aides proper hand form, redesigned foam to maximize hand protection on the impact zone and additional padding that shields the first and fifth metacarpals, two commonly injured bones of the hand.

The new glove will debut when Bellator's 10th season kicks-off this Friday, February 28th, 2014.

We've all had that foot long gash on our face or neck from some asshole. I'm insinuating from all the times I've been backstage at events or grappling matches ,the "nails check" is a quick glance and inadequate. What the deal is yo?

The bums in bjj or muay thai with sharp finger or toenails are the worst

I know when I've competed the NJAC always looked at my nails, but I don't exactly remember how thoroughly personally. How much would attention to detail as far as nails being trimmed close and filed attribute to less severe eye injury?

Def all chokes are affected and no gullitones at all it would be hard. But def not a bad glove just like the flat ones better for grappling. But they felt great boxing

Most jiu jitsu moves seem like they'd be harder with these gloves rear naked chokes being among the hardest , really most chokes but time will tell

I used them last night def like the old ones better, these would make it harder to grapple and get subs but there good for striking.

I think the extra padding on the smaller joints is a great idea. Fairtex had the curve as well. The gloves are something that for some reason have never been updated like they are in other sports. It's nice to see this.
