White: Guillard talked smack, but ran the entire fight

Anticipation was high for Saturday's Melvin Guillard vs. Michael Johnson lightweight fight, but it ended with a decision for Johnson that was neither crowd pleasing nor boss pleasing.

“There’s no doubt Melvin ran the entire fight and was incredibly passive, the complete opposite of how he used to fight,” said UFC president Dana White as transcribed by MMAJunkie. “There was a lot of smack talk leading up to that fight, and those are the fights that everybody gets excited about, and nine times out of 10 they end up like tonight. Those drive me crazy.

“I was excited for that fight… both really explosive athletes who can mix it up really well, and it just didn’t happen tonight. But you take tonight and take it to any city in the world and one fight is a bad fight, I’ll take that every time.”

Johnson was equally critical.

“It was obvious he didn’t want a piece of me,” said Johnson. “I’m a little pissed off that our fight was considered bad. I came here to fight, and he was running and not engaging.

“He was talking a lot of s--- before the fight, and I expected him to do something. But instead, he didn’t. I did think he was a little scared of me in this fight.”

White was asked about Guillard's future in the organization, and offered a terse response.

“I don’t ever say that stuff at the press conferences,” said White.

Stop acting like he didn't beat the hell out of Ross Pearson just 1 fight ago.  That was a win until Ross "played the game."

Guillard should get cut.2 out of his last 8 isn't close to good enough.

But White said that Guillard ran the whole fight. Somewhat insulting and grossly exaggerated in my opinion.

I think it's great he called out MJ and was nullified. MJ keeps on getting better and better than the guy who struggled against joe Bramer here in the Mcc.

If he survives this I will be amazed. He hasn't won two straight in years. He has 2 wins in 8 fights.

Apples and oranges. Condit was a much more effective fighter than Diaz while moving. Melvin was getting lit up anytime MJ was in range. Big difference.

Hey whoa guys, I'm kinda disappointed in everyone saying Melvin should be cut. The guy has brought us a whole lot of great and memorable violence over the years. Def give him another chance.
