Cro cop: Anderson Silva will never be the same

MMA legend Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic recently appeared on Ariel Helwani's The MMA Hour, and he talked about another legend, former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva.

"I'm 39 already, and how long I still think to fight? I don't know," said Cro Cop as transcribed by MMAFighting. "I said many times that any fight could be my last one. And it's [like that] for everyone. Just remember what happened to Anderson Silva, that terrible injury he got. Unbelievable. Boom, completely broken."

"I heard, thank God, he's recovering, but it'll always leave a scar in his mind, and even physically. He will never be the same fighter. He'll never. I really like and respect and admire him, but I don't think he will ever be 100-percent the old Anderson Silva. It was a terrible injury. He'll always start thinking, what if it happens again? But that's the name of the game. You cannot avoid it. Sometimes it just happens."

Even if he kept the metal rod and the doctors told him "your leg is now unbreakable" there just isn't any way he'll mentally be able to throw leg kicks at 100% any more. Nobody would be able to. Every time he thinks of throwing a leg kick he'll be reminded of a horrendous trauma. Ees hoooman.

He might get it taken out. We dont know.Which would mean longer recovery. But the metal rod can create problems. It doesnt make your bone superhuman. Kicking can definitely create a lot of problems with a metal rod inside your bone.Sure his bone will be muchs stronger. But Cro Cop is right. Anderson will never throw a leg kick the same way again. No matter what you say. I broke my wrist at wrestling practice from landing the wrong way. Bad technique on my part, but I make a concious effort to never land that way again.Ees normal

Sad but true Saying he's going to be the 100% the same is very very wishful thinking. Even a 100% Anderson lost to weidman twice an older and repaired doesn't have a chance.

The rod is hollow so I would expect there to be now way for the leg to break like it did before but could certainly still break just not in half. I'm not saying it's impossible for someone to come back from that but you have to imagine anyone wouldn't be 100 percent the same throwing leg kicks again.

Wasn't CroCop having a cry the other day because Fedor called him out on one of his semi-recent performance - his basically doing the same thing that he criticized the GOAT of.

He's right. Anderson isn't the same merely by virtue of his age alone... add that horrible injury and his diminished abilities are going to be very obvious.
