White: UFN 37 was on Fight Pass because it was not in FOX budget

The hardcore fan base was mystified when Alexander Gustafsson was fighting on the top of a card that could only be seen in the US on Fight Pass.

During the UFC Fight Night 37 pre-fight scrum

"The whole Fight Pass thing was confusing to people," acknowledged White. "I think we did a bad job of messaging it, not only to our fans, but also to our fighters. I heard Gustafsson said yesterday 'I'm a little bummed out - I went from PPV to Fight Pass.'

“First of all, the fight is being distributed to 350 million possible viewers throughout the world. This fight is available in Canada, in Brazil, Mexico, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, The Dominican Republic, Venezuela, The Phillipines, Australia, Mongolia, India, New Zealand, The UAE- Abu Dhabi and all this countries down there. In the UK, the entire will be on BT Sport, and the main event for the first time ever here will be on Channel 5, open TV to everybody. We're in Ireland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Croatia, and Israel. All of those countries in Israel, 350 million homes.

The A m e r i c a n s have to pay for it on Fight Pass. So the reason that this happened is, we added 10 more fights, we went to FOX and try to see if FOX would pick up these 10 more fights, and they didn’t.  So that’s why we put these on Fight Pass."

"They create their budgets at the beginning of the year and it wasn’t in their budget to pick up these fights. You know, not to say they don’t pick them up later, or whatever could happen with the deal, but that’s what happened. So, it’s either no onebody gets to see them or you put them on Fight Pass.

"So, I hope that clears up some of the questions about Fight Pass. And anybody else and the rest of the world and countries I didn’t call, that I didn’t say a minute ago, they get it on Fight Pass too. Which of course all these people in other countries are pumped to pay for it on Fight Pass, whereas the Americans who are used to getting these fights for free, some of them are a little twisted, but whatever, what are you going to do.”

You don't get it at all and it seems you don't want to. So what ever Still no reason to fighter bash. So for that... you absolutely suck.

there is only one way to look at it. it is a product that costs $10/month. it is either worth it, or it isn't. in the US, it is not even close (in my opinion). if it is for you, then great.the extension of your point is that if the UFC comes up with fightpass+, with cards that are even more watered down, that would be worth EVEN MORE than $10/mo because the sport and fighters benefit all the more. what you are describing is, in fact, charity.that's a ridiculous way to look at things, imo. fans of this sport are paying plenty out of pocket relative to other sports already and no one pays more than americans. very, very few people are going to spend the $10/month because of the up and coming fighters. they (the majority, not everyone) spend the $10 because the want to see gus fight. or nog fight. or whoever the headliner is. that is why they are on the cards to begin with and where the real value is (again, in the US)

It's standard Zuffa procedure. Try to spin everything and then tuck and run when someone offers an intelligent rebuttal.

Or they could put them on Facebook like they've done for years. If they knew they were going to have 40 events a year, and signed a deal with FOX to air on the main network, FS1, and FS2, why not hash this out and make it clear how many events they will need to air? What sucks is I've bought PPV's over the years, then had to pay an additional $10/month to get FS1 on my cable package, now they want me to pay $10 more per month if I want to see the Fight Pass cards. Where does it end? Will there be another exclusive "UFC Super Amazing Fight Card Stream" in 6 months that will be another fee. And who the fuck wants to watch through a stream. Even the WWE figured out how to get an application on Xbox, Apple TV, etc...UFC has to be the most expensive sport in the world to watch, right?

Aaaaaand I'm there lol. Once again Cindy will never speak without any bias so her being here is a complete waste of time unless she is offering a meet and greet or some shit

Those events would still exist and would air on the UFC's in-market television deals like they do now. They just wouldn't air in the U.S. Instead of airing them for free, the UFC decided to charge their domestic market.

Cindy just to be clear are you saying if not for FP these fights would not be shown?  If so i beg to differ, if not for FP then these fights would be free and TV.  Zuffa is just finding new ways to charge us more money.   Then please share where the events that Fox (for Fox/FX/FS1/FS2) passed on would be going if they weren't on Fightpass. Let me know how many events the Fox contract covered and then where the extras would have gone. Thanks.   Cindy

Brings up a "free" card. Then brings up Fight Pass. And yes it was a shitty watered down card. Again, the numbers speak for themselves. Out of 90 top 10 fighters, they put 1 on the card. That's 1/90. Regarding top 15 fighters, it was 2/135. Not good.Other than this, when's the last time they only had 1 top guy on a card?By the way, clearly it was shitty. The network they went into agreement with basically told them to fuck off as opposed to playing it. I don't remember Spike, Fuel, or FX ever saying "no thanks."
