Winkeljohn: Overeem will be a team player or ostracized and out

UFC heavyweight Alistair Overeem recently signed with VFD Marketing, his third management company in two years, having been released by the Blackzilians, and acrimoniously separating from Team Golden Glory before that.

Overeem's training too has seen a variety of camps, including a private camp within the BlackziliansNow Overeem will be training at Jackson's MMA.

Australia's Submission Radio has been doing a remarkable job, and the streak continues in this interview with Jackson's MMA co-head coach Mike Winkeljohn, as he discusses the newest team member.

Winkeljohn noted that Overeem will have to be a team player.

"That's just the way our camp is," said the coach as transcribed by BE. "It's first and foremost you have to help others and if you start helping other people out, if he could help other people out with his stand up and his knowledge in different positions, then the team is going to help him. If not, he will be ostracized real quick and he'll be gone."

"The guys won't do it themselves or want me to be a jerk about it, which I'm usually a jerk, but it just happens that way. That's why we're so good at what we do I think is, the guys help each other and that's huge, because you can't do it by yourself no matter how good you think you are, you need to help others to become successful in this sport."

Winkeljohn also expressed enthusiasm for the heavyweight joining the camp.

"I haven't spoke with him yet, but as soon as he comes I'm going to be excited to be working with him," said Winkeljohn.

"The guy can hit hard, I mean Travis Browne told me how hard he and hit, but the thing is I want him to not be striking and then standing in a place where he can get counter punched and or taken down. He needs to strike and then make slight angle changes, I think will change his game tremendously."

They signed him weeks before this fight. And Browne said he was looking forward to having overeem on the team.

This. Not sure why Alistair after keeping to himself at Blackzillians would go to Jackson's where the coach will let teammates fight each other. Now he'll be sharing secrets with potential opponents.

Funny how Browne just lost to Werdum and they sign uber-reem to the team. I doubt Jackson will ever have any loyalty to his fighters. With the GSP-Sanchez and the Evans-Jones thing it sounds more like he cares more about money then his fighters.

Awesome addition to the camp and what a damn roster for Jones to spar with(Mir, Browne, Overeem, Arlovski) to get experience with top level HW's for his inevitable move up

Not because he's a team mate just because Reem would make him realise that there are guys just too big and too good for him at HW at this point of his career.
