Rankings Update 4.21.14: Forty six changes

After each live event, the UFC polls various members of the media to update its Rankings in each weight division as well as the pound for pound rankings.

With several meaningful bouts at the UFC on FOX 11, the lightweight division is where we saw the most change in positioning:

Champion: Anthony Pettis
1. Gilbert Melendez +1
2. Benson Henderson -1
3. TJ Grant
4. Josh Thomson
5. Khabib Nurmagomedov +2
6. Nate Diaz
7. Donald Cerrone +1
8. Rafael Dos Anjos -3
9. Jim Miller
10. Gray Maynard
11. Myles Jury
12. Michael Johnson +1
13. Edson Barboza -1
14. Bobby Green
15.Rustam Khabilov

With his dominating win over Rafael Dos Anjos, Khabib Nurmagomedov moved up two places to occupy the fifth spot and will likely face a top five lightweight in his next outing. Dos Anjos dropped three spots to eight with the loss.

Donald Cerrone picked up an impressive win over Edson Barboza at the event as well and moved up one spot to seventh. Barboza dropped two spots and down to the twelfth.

Often fighters can move rankings without fighting as the media will re-think their rankings, as was the cause with Gilbert Melendez who is now the number one contender and Benson Henderson who dropped to second place. Michael Johnson also moved up one spot courtesy of Edson Barboza's loss.

Part of the reason for the changes is they add new voters. It might be shitty but at least it's transparent.

It's because some people have him higher and some don't have him ranked at all due to inactivity. You can see individual's rankings if you use the pulldown on the top.

So when's Maia getting his title shot? Pretty sure he lost his last fight, but he keeps moving up, so I must be wrong and he's actually fighting once a month, and winning the fights, otherwise these rankings would make no sense.Oh, and don't worry about the heavyweight rankings guys. I just imagine that it's a 3 bracket division. 1) Guys who haven't fought Cain yet 2) Guys who have no chance of beating Cain. When you think of it that way it really simplifies things.

It's like we're arguing on a WWE forum over who Vince picked to wear the belt.

The MMAth that went into those must be some complex calculations because I don't understand them at all.

The people they are asking are taking recent wins over head to heads, and the fact that it moved means MULTIPLE outlets thinks recent > Head to head and it's getting dumber by the day. Which on another level is also ridiculous because Dana refuses to hype Werdum and basically buried his momentum by calling his win "safe" over Brown. Nothing makes any sense with this system at all.

Neither Gil or benson fought. Yet Gil moved up. Makes the tuf and title shot "legit" in the eyes of the ufc I guess. #1 contender!
