Report: Eddie Alvarez out of Bellator PPV main event

Back in November Bellator planned it's first PPV event, headlined by Tito Ortiz vs. Rampage Jackson. When Ortiz was injured, Bellator decided to take the event off PPV and move it to Spike TV.

This spring when Bellator finally settled it's differences with Eddie Alvarez they booked a third fight between him and Michael Chandler for PPV. However, now it looks like that fight might be in jeopardy: on Friday confirmed with a source close to the booking that Will Brooks will replace Alvarez at the May 17 event, which takes place at Landers Center in Southaven, Miss.

Bellator 120 will also see Quinton Jackson lock horns with Muhammed Lawal in the company’s Season 10 light heavyweight tournament final, while Tito Ortiz takes on reigning middleweight champion Alexander Shlemenko in another 205-pound attraction.

With Alvarez potentially out of the PPV, Will Brooks is a solid opponent, but not a PPV draw. It is unknown at this time if Bellator will keep the event on PPV.

Update: is reporting that Alvarez withdrew due to a concussion suffered in training.

If Brooks beats Chandler he would be the interim champ, he would fight Eddie next I assume like the other interim champs have had to

Take all that out of consideration...why on eather would the UFC want to mess with the Bellator PPV?   Fun speculation aside, it should be clear there is no evidence what so ever of the UFC messing with another fighter's contract outside the UFC. I welcome anyone to present evidence otherwise.   Back to reasoning; Why would the UFC want to delay getting Eddie into the UFC? I'm sure Dana was excited to see if Eddie could walk out of that arena and Bellator with the LW belt. That was the real allure of this fight, the stakes were so damn high. There is no reason I can think of to buy this PPV now. It would be a good SPIKE card.   The UFC is not concerned about Bellator as long as thier ratings continue to be well below the network average. They pay attention but there is not a lot of supporting evidence that Bellator is a heathly company anymore and how far in the hole are they willing to go to try to turn this thing around?   Lastly, I'm sure Dana and ZUFFA would actually like to know how successful a Bellator PPV could be with a compelling card. That would be a good indicator of the market and if BFC is legitimate threat.   I'm sure Dana is not not happy about the PPV going to shit, but he is certainly not happy that Eddie is injured and future is uncertain. He's a very needed addition to the UFC. Good looking, exciting sytle, and world beater. All the makings of a star.

Thats exactly what would happen, and Eddie knows it. He'd play ball or end up buried under second base at a local baseball diamond.

Lol the I highly doubt Dana would put a multi billion dollar company in jeopardy legally and financially just to fuck with Bellator's ppv. What would he do if Alvarez said no and told Dana he was being recorded and was heading to the press with the evidence? Have the mafia bump him off?

Would be nice to see how their ppv would of done, now with Alvarez out they probably won't go through with it. Shame cause my buddies and I made plans to watch it. Now that's up in the air.Personally I would love to see Alvarez in the UFC. Bellator like the UFC hold their own interests above the fighters. As a fan of the sport and father of a fighter I always want whats best for the athletes. As for the Diaz I love watching them fight not in-love with the shit talking thou. Hope they iron things out with the UFC soon.
