White to Diaz bros: 'The world moves on, man'

Nick Diaz is retired, after a fashion, until he gets a title shot or $500,000. Younger brother Nate is not responding to fight offers from the UFC, and has been removed from the organization's top 10 list. Nate, too, has money issues with the UFC; he currently makes $60,000 to show and another $60,000 to win, an amount he feels adamantly is not commensurate with his top 10 status.

The absence of the Diaz brothers is a vast loss to mixed martial arts, as no one fights like they do, no one connects with fans like they do, and they will not be able to fight forever.

At the post fight media scrum, White addressed the issue.

“The thing that’s sad about it: I like them,” White said to MMAjunkie. “And I used to have a really good relationship with Nate, but fighting or any other sport, it isn’t a profession. It isn’t a job. It’s an opportunity. It’s an opportunity to make money. It’s an opportunity to achieve great things in a short window of time.

“And if they want to sit out their window of time, for the rest of their career, that’s up to them.”

“We keep offering Nate fights, and he turns them down. Nate, by not responding, thinks he’s not turning them down. But by not responding, he is turning them down. That’s not really how it works, you know?”

“It’s not frustrating for me at all. If the Diaz brothers don’t ever want to fight again, that’s up to them. They’re fun to watch. I know people like to watch them. But you can’t make grown men fight. They either want to fight or they don’t.

“The world moves on, man.”

While White may profess a lack of frustration, it is not shared by their fans, who want to see whatever has to get done get done to get the Diaz brothers back in the Octagon, before they, and we, get old.

That's weak - there are a million ways of diplomacy and BLAF is failing at them all. Everyone demands more money all the time and still fights happen. Please. They know their worth now, like Dana says, it's not about wins; it's an entertainment business and the Diaz brothers know their entertainment value - and it's much bigger than 95% of the current UFC roster. Give Nate some low points, give all the main event low points and give him 150k/150k. That's the deal I'm seeing.

“He left the UFC to go fight somewhere else. People think that because he did that, I have some – I never, ever fault somebody for trying to better their life, and he had a better deal. This ain’t f—ing Bellator. A guy tries to better his life, we’re not going to try to destroy the guy and sue him to death and hold up his career and do that.” Dana White.

Good reply.Btw, Nate asked to be released from the UFC publicly prior to Gils deal. Gils deal was the last straw.

Renegotiations are just that if there is a contract saying a person gets 60k per fights for a total of 5 fights then there is no Renegotiating until that 5 fights are up. Now somewhere in their contracts "that Mans deal we are talking about" I'm sure there is a stipulation with some wording to which UFC reserves the right to release them. Again that's the deal people are signing. I see both sides I have fought and I have promoted fights. From a promoters stand point if you singed to contract with me lost your last 2 fights including a give me title fight. then start crying and talking about retiring after you got butt-hurt that a decision didn't go your way. I would tell you flat out to kick rocks then but don't kick em too far cuase your ass owes me some fights.

LOL@ saying an expression in a 2 year old pic is indicative of a contract he signed 2 months ago! The fact that you see Cesar instead of Kogan should tell you its not the most recent signing.   Cindy
