Lawler likely next for Hendricks

With an amazing performance and win over Jake Ellenberger, Robbie Lawler may have secured himself another shot at Johny Hendricks for the UFC title:

"How could you deny him the fight," said White. "The fight with Hendricks was awesome. With his performance before the Hendricks fight, no doubt he's the No. 1 guy (contender) in the world."

Lawler lost a straight 48-47 decision to Hendricks in their March 15 fight in Dallas to fill the welterweight title vacancy left when champion George St-Pierre took a leave from the sport.

In most people's eyes, the first fight between the two, among the best fights so far this year,  was even going into the final round.

Hendricks suffered a torn biceps prior to the fight, and had surgery afterwards, and is targeting somewhere between September and November for a return.

"I did a good job, I got a stoppage and I put everyone on notice, and I know I'm in the conversation," said Lawler.

Robbie's the #1, that they are going to fight again is inevitable. He deserves to fight for the title, Hendricks' injury is the monkey wrench leading to an immediate rematch.

Theyre already talking about a barao/dillashaw rematch and now a Lawler/Hendricks rematch.

It's definitely a subjective sport. I personally thought Hendricks had 1,2 and 4 against GSP, and I'm a huge GSP honk, but as I said, my thinking that GSP lost it had little to do with damage, and more to do with controlling of the fight. My guess with Lawler/ Hendricks not having the same outrage is just that the fight wasn't as close as GSP/ Hendricks, so the tie breaker of damage doesn't play as much. Of course, this is also the ug, I can hardly account for all of the stupidity and double standards that go on around here. Don't forget, there are still people on this site that think GSP lost to Diaz.

i scored the Hendricks vs GSP fight for GSP, and was surprised by all the outrage.  then all that outraged dissapeared when Hendricks went for takedowns to score points and win against Lawler.

I personally just thought Hendricks won more rounds than GSP, in their fight. Regarding damage though, as I said in another thread, if damage was scored in the GSP fight, Lawler probably wouldn't have had his shot in March. So it's kind of an irrelevant point for Lawler, or his supporters to make. For what it's worth this is the judging criteria I found on the UFC's site. I couldn't actually find any mention of damage in the judging section, I could definitely be wrong though:"Evaluations shall be made in the order in which the techniques appear in (c) above, giving the most weight in scoring to effective striking, effective grappling, control of the fighting area and effective aggressiveness and defense."

Lawler deserves it the most. He is the only clear cut no1 contender. I mean he beat up and nearly finished Hendricks last time. People complaining about this are being a bit shortsighted. Just because it's a rematch doesn't mean it shouldn't happen. Lawler has proved to be the best. No one else has quite stepped up that much yet. Lombard, Woodley, Rory all haven't made a statement like Lawler has so let them prove themselves while Lawler gets his deserved rematch.

no, the winner of Woodley/Rory should fight Hendricks...then Lawler gets a shot at whoever wins that fight..

I agree completely with this, except in this case.Robbie deserves it because he won the first time.

Maybe if Jonny boy wasn't injured he'd be fighting other people before having to fight Lawler again.
