The UFC wanted UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones to rematch Alexander Gustafsson, perhaps in Sweden. Jones wanted to fight Daniel Cormier instead. Eventually Jones agreed to fight "The Mauler" but was adamant about one thing, it was not going to be in Sweden.
Now the UFC has announced that the fight will be in Vegas, at UFC 178 on Sept. 27. The arena has not been announced, but will likely be either the MGM Grand or Mandalay Bay.
The pair fought at UFC 165 in September, with Jones taking a controversial decision. Each has had one fight since. Jones soundly beat Glover Teixeira at UFC 172 in April, while Gustafsson knocked out Jimi Manuwa in the second at UFN 37 in March.
No other bouts for the card have been announced.
