Great idea, water resistance really works all the muscles.

swimming is the best thing that i have ever done for martial arts cardio, be it for grappling, standup or weapons. I also like sprinting in the water....as for specific martial arts activities in the water...i'm not so sure. I've had a hip replacement so i started out doing kicks in the water, you've got support, some resistance etc., and it was better than nothing, however, your balance is different, and it throws off your accuracy. I think that if you can, you are much better off to do your kicking punching etc in shadow boxing, bag or pad hitting, sparring etc. I have found that for me the water kicking etc is a similar enough movement to cause neural confusion. I am also not a fan of cord resisted punches, etc. for the same reason...it doesn't work for me, in fact, it works against me..YMMV.

of all the training i've done outside BJJ (jogging, circuits, etc), swimming freestyle made the most noticeable difference in cardio during sparring.try it just once or twice a week and push yourself a little each time (ie. go till you have to stop... rest... go till you have to stop again, etc.) the difference is good.
