UFC 108, the most injury plagued fight card in the promotion’s history, lost another fighter on Saturday. Rory Markham has had to pull out of his scheduled bout with Martin Kampmann.
Markham’s withdrawal was first reported by Sherdog.com’s Greg Savage on his Twitter account. MMAWeekly.com confirmed the news with independent sources.
Markham told MMAWeekly on Saturday evening that he pulled his achilles tendon last month during wrestling practice and re-aggravated it Wednesday. He consulted with a doctor who told him there was a good chance he could tear the tendon and be out of action for up to a year.
"Not to mention, I couldn't walk up stairs," Markham wrote via text message.
