108: Markham pulls out of bout with Kampmann

UFC 108, the most injury plagued fight card in the promotion’s history, lost another fighter on Saturday. Rory Markham has had to pull out of his scheduled bout with Martin Kampmann.

Markham’s withdrawal was first reported by Sherdog.com’s Greg Savage on his Twitter account. MMAWeekly.com confirmed the news with independent sources.

Markham told MMAWeekly on Saturday evening that he pulled his achilles tendon last month during wrestling practice and re-aggravated it Wednesday. He consulted with a doctor who told him there was a good chance he could tear the tendon and be out of action for up to a year.

"Not to mention, I couldn't walk up stairs," Markham wrote via text message.

hope he has a safe and quick recovery so first Silva/Belfort was targeted for 108, Andersons surgery prevented that from happening Lesnar/Carwin was supposed to happen at 108, this is prior to us knowing the extent of Brocks illness Nogueira/Velasquez scrapped from card due to Nogs staph infection Gabriel Gonzaga gets staph, pulls out of Dos Santos fight Carlos Condit slices hand, pulls out of Daley fight Tyson Griffin injury, pulls out of Miller fight Rory Markham has an achilles injury, pulls out of Kampmann fight am i missing anything? this card is fucking cursed, lets hope its an exciting event Kampmann/Ellenberger would be great

He should take the fight anyway. He would lose to Kampmannm, injury or not.

It's really unfortunate because Rory wanted this fight so bad and he was working so fucking hard.Can't mess with an achilles injury.

Good lord. This is ridiculous. I wish all injured fighters a speedy recovery, and hope there aren't any more on this godforsaken card.

Karma???These MMA Camps are going to have to be shut down and restocked with trainers who have sports medicine/Kinesiology degrees. Boxing has perfected its training techniques over the course of 100 plus years.
