Fighter loses ear in match in Japan

In a bout with Masaya "J-Taro" Takita, Grabaka fighter Shigeyuki Uchiyama appeared comfortably en route to a win when over during a double leg takedown they fell through the ropes.

It was not clear how Uchiyama's cauliflowered ear was torn off, but blood could be seen on the top and bottom ropes.

As soon as Pancrase officials identified the bloody lump on the canvas, a doctor check was called and the bout was stopped at 2:57 of Round 2.

Uchiyama was taken to hospital along with his severed ear immediately following the bout. It is not yet known if his ear can be reattached.

That's pretty gross, but it seems like the scar tissue came out pretty cleanly... Anyone have any idea how hard it would be to repair that plastic surgery-wise?

that is pretty did instantly make me think of foley, who literally lost his ear in the ring against Vader in japan, much worse than Uchiyama I'd imagine.
