The fights for UFC 119 are starting to come together and a major lightweight bout has been confirmed for the card. Undefeated Evan Dunham returns to action to face former UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk at the Indianapolis event.

The bout was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com by sources close to the fight on Wednesday.

With a perfect 11-0 record, Dunham could be on the fast track towards a title shot in the next year.

Looking to make his way back to title contention as well is former UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk (32-4-1), who comes back for the September card after being out of action since May 2009.

Major LMFAO at the people who claim "Sherk was never that good"...wow.That's hilarious people are counting him out of this fight. Sherk has some serious bad luck with injuries and my only concern is the layoff.I think he will beat Dunham.

Sherk by GNP. I was just going to make a thread to see if he was ever going to fight again. The long layoff does scare me though. The last time he had a long layoff he lost, although it was to GSP.

regarding hand speed vs Dunham. If they bang it out on the feet I hope Sean can start landing some of his bombs because his timing has always kind of seemed off on the big throws with his opponents narrowly sliping or escaping his hooks.I think his reach really hurts him...I like to see a bit of the old Sean mixed in with some good takedown setups...and perhaps some of his BJJ that his highly underrated....

If his camp makes this decision it will be the best thing they could do for him. I think some of his past losses (bj and edgar) were out of a poor gameplan and didnt reflect on seans ability and talent.

I was a sparring partner for Evan Dunham and Brent and krew (they never called themselves that) back in Fall '08. He's fundamentally the same fighter he was then: a slow starter with hard and accurate punches, farmboy strength, bullying wrestling, and stultifying jiu-jitsu. The only thing I haven't seen from him recently are his knees, which are bone shatteringly hard.Sherk definitely has a speed advantage on Dunham and probably is the more fluent striker. Evan has a total of four punches in his repertoire, though they're definitely much better now than when he was training full time out of Eugene: the 45 (sideways, reaching uppercut with his right lead) which he uses instead of a jab. A hard left straight that follow the 45 or an overhand left. He's got a left hook, too, but I can't recall if he's thrown that lately. He still doesn't seem to have a right hook to finish combinations with and he's never been good at playing southpaw footsie to get positional dominance in boxing. I think Sherk has a big chance here if he can draw Evan into a firefight, but he may not have the firepower to take Evan out. Evan has really quick reflexes, despite leaving something to be desired with his hand-speed, and he will begin to time Sherk at some point.

Sherk wins a desc here. He will toss his boxing out the window and take Dunham down and G+P and control this fight. It will be old school Sherk which i think is refreshing, and he will win.

I think Sherk takes it.Haven't been impressed by Dunham like everyone else.Have I missed something on that guy? He beat Escudero and Griffin. And with Griffin he was just riding him and stifling him with wicked control.
